I want my flair back, lol!!! I do miss the simplicity though, when everything was right there on one page of your profile.

One of the later features I really liked from a few years ago that they got rid of was the years listed to the right of your profile page. It made finding particular posts super easy, you could click on the year and from the month. Not the same as the 'One This Day' at all, because that only shows particular events and not everything you posted on that specific day, which is a bummer.

My political views are listed as 'Jon Stewart'!Sarah @ All The Book Blog Names Are Takenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12507006809241347635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080051275665594538.post-58115310250808930162018-07-14T15:31:04.398-05:002018-07-14T15:31:04.398-05:00To be fair, facebook has been much worse. Do you remember that period -- I can't place the year, but maybe 2009/2010 -- that they experimented with allowing people to heavily customize their homepage, adding different elements? People had streaming music, virtual corkboards they placed "flair" on, class schedules. I missed it at first, because I liked my tunes and my flair, but in retrospect it seems REALLY obnoxious. They had a major change after that when all of our "interests" were turned into pages so they could monetize the info better.

Now, of course, I "like" nothing on facebook. and my personal info is garbage like "Religion: Jedi". and "Politics: Rebel Alliance". I am one of those who complains every time there is an update/layout change because I remember the easy simplicity of the early platform. I primarily use it at this point for family contact (Eleanor and I are a six hour drive away from our family, in MN), and to promote my blog. And rage about politics. I had to wait until late 2006 when they opened it up to people with addresses that didn't end in .edu( didn't get a .edu email until 2007)

I'm fairly minimal in my social media usage: I check Twitter once a month, if that; my facebook is only used to post the ocassional witticism or to post travel photos, and I don't use instagram/snapchat/pinterest/etc. I do frequent goodreads and reddit, though. My minimalism is partly deliberate (mental/emotional takeover by social media is something I actively guard against, based on books like Amusing Ourselves to Death and Hamlet's Blackberry, but is helped by the fact that I'm not in college, my close friends aren't active on social media themselves, and I actually don't like seeing picture's of people's foods/cats/pets/kitchens/etc on a daily basis. Maybe I'm just a crank... :pStephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15097908023032528200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080051275665594538.post-73291251417853028092018-07-14T09:02:19.697-05:002018-07-14T09:02:19.697-05:00It really started with my generation. I am old enough to remember having to use dial-up to go online, but young enough to have spent hours on Facebook in college when it first became available to my university. But this new generation has taken it to a whole new level and it is pretty alarming. I mainly use Twitter to talk about books and my blog and topics that interest me in those areas. I have no interest in Instagram, Snapchat, or anything else though. Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, and my blog are enough for me!Sarah @ All The Book Blog Names Are Takenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12507006809241347635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080051275665594538.post-16303735560117313902018-07-14T02:05:40.857-05:002018-07-14T02:05:40.857-05:00I've never got this obsession with social medi...I've never got this obsession with social media. I stick to my main book sites and blogs and rarely venture elsewhere. We have a lot of teens who are so fixated with their phones, like pretty much all teens. I hope it can be helpful for them, because these young ones have no idea what it is like to grow up in a world without being able to share your every thought, every single moment of every single day. Yikes.Sarah @ All The Book Blog Names Are Takenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12507006809241347635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5080051275665594538.post-35573113732213670732018-07-13T22:26:13.977-05:002018-07-13T22:26:13.977-05:00#stolen does sound pretty good for the right audie...#stolen does sound pretty good for the right audience. And I can definitely see it maybe being a benefit to a youth group, given young peoples' total fixation on social media (not all young people, but most I'm sure). Great point too about people showing what they WANT to show- that can be a hard lesson for teens and young people and any way to help them understand that ahead of time is good in my view.
