I'm picturing a dead body about to rise to the surface. Am I correct? Or do I just read too many mysteries?
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: http://carstairsconsiders.blogspot.com/2023/03/st-patrick-days-friday-post.html
If I told you, I would spoil it!
Delete"It was almost noon, and the sun which blazed across Sydney harbour was pitiless in its intensity. The sky above the capital of the infant colony should have been bright blue, but it was blurred as if seen through a crudely made glass, and the air around the waterfront buildings and anchorage alike felt gritty and humid". Passage to Mutiny by Alexander Kent
ReplyDeleteVery descriptive.
DeleteWell, that is an intriguing start!
ReplyDeleteAnd it was a great read!
DeleteThis is a fantastic beginning. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Sarah 🍀
ReplyDeleteIt was a great book, Happy St.Patrick's Day!
DeleteSpooky! :)
ReplyDeleteIt probably is not thriller-y enough for you, but it was a great read.
DeleteGreat starting line - suspense, maybe a murder? I'm over to GR to check it out! Have a terrific week.

I hope you get the chance to read it, it was a great book!
DeleteThat cover is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
I'm currently reading Everything is Just Beginning by Erin Bartels. It's pretty awesome!
"How about 492?
Ugh."
I looked up from the clipboard in my lap. "You don't like The Replacements?"
I hope you have a really excellent weekend!
Absolutely. It matched the contents for sure...unlike other books I've read recently that had great covers and boooooring stories inside.
DeleteGreat first lines, caught my attention and makes me wonder what happens next. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI think you might like this one, it's a great read.
DeleteDefinitely an attention-getting opening!

ReplyDeleteMy first line this week comes from Forged in Live by Mary Connealy:
August 1870. Pine Valley, Wyoming
A bullet slammed into the side of the stagecoach carrying Mariah Stover, her pa, and her older brother.
Thank you for sharing your line!
DeleteSounds intriguing! I'm reading Yosemite Firestorm by Tanya Stowe. The first line is: "Olivia Chatham pulled her ranger Jeep into the parking lot of the hiking trail near Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows and groaned."
ReplyDeleteIt was a great read, thanks for coming by!
