Monday Meme #38

I am reviving this little feature after eight years. You might see a couple recycled from when I did this in 2016, but they were funny then and they are still funny now. Occasionally they will be more introspective or comforting. No matter what, they will be about reading and books.

Just one? Lol.

My 'currently reading' shelf on Goodreads has 54 books on it.

First Line Friday #178

First Line Friday is a weekly feature and simple to do - grab the book nearest you and post the first line. Carrie hosts this over on her blog Reading is my Superpower.

In a summer cottage by a lake in a room full of tearful and anxious members of Jimmy Hoffa's family, the FBI found a yellow pad. Hoffa kept the pad next to his phone. On the pad Hoffa had written in pencil "Russell and Frank."

Would You Rather... | #31

I began posting this back in 2018 and thought I would bring it back, given that my motivation to blog has returned with force. You might recognize some from prior use, but I am changing up which ones are paired together to give a variety of choices.

There's no real criteria or guidelines. Choose the nook you would love most if given a choice, justify it however you'd like.

People have asked a lot how I can remember everything for my reviews, when I read multiple books at once. I have a terrible memory, so I take TONS of notes as I am reading, either in Goodreads or by hand as I go. I would never be able to write any reviews if I did not do this. The second option doesn't really apply to me.

Books From The Backlog #69

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.

Neglected Book of the Week

Why did I add In Search of the First Civilizations to my TBR?

Because there's nothing I love daydreaming about more than these lost civilizations.

Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

Teehee. Sometimes it is so hard to not tell something. But I don't because it's mean. It doesn't stop me from giggling about it though.

First Line Friday #176

"Originally those islands were inhabited by Peti and Pape, One of these races, the Peti, only a little taller than pygmies, accomplished miraculous achievements by building towns, morning and evening, but at midday every ounce of strength deserted them and they hid in fear in underground chambers."

This is how the writer of the late 12th-century Historia Norwegie described the Peti, the Picts, who along with the Pape, presumably clerics, had inhabited the Orkney, Shetland, and the Western Isles of Scotland before supposedly being wiped out by the Scandinavians in the reign of the semi-legendary Norwegian king, Harald Fairhair (c. 870-932).

Why did I add Framing the Middle Ages to my TBR?

Because I like Wickham's work and I love the Middle Ages.

Not hard at all. It's all I do when Eleanor has to be at her father's house. Some chores, some working out. But mostly reading.
