Tackling the TBR Week 1: Jan 1 - Jan 7, 2022

I am now in year FOUR of Tackling the TBR. Slowly but surely I have made big strides in getting my TBR under control. When I first started in 2019, that list was topping out at over 5,000 books. I don't know that I will ever get below 500, but a #BookDragon can dream!

I will be posting on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and the last day of the month. Feel free to join in if you'd like!

2022 Reading Goals

I am keeping things super chill once again this year because until COVID is under any semblance of control, work is going to be stressful and extra busy. Being a teacher these last two years has really been difficult, not going to lie. I love my kids, but I do not love all the extra crap piled on from people who aren't in it themselves, but are making rules and policies that impact us and the kiddos we serve.

Besides, blogging is fun and I want it to stay that way. When this becomes a chore, yikes. I don't ever want to think about that happening.

My reading goals are simple again this year:

1. Read 250 books - this is down from 275 last year. When Eleanor and I read a book together now, they are on the longer side and then means less reading time for myself. I don't mind that one bit, and will gladly read out loud to baby girl as long as she wants me to!

2. Reduce my TBR to less than 2,300 books - In 2021 my goal was to reduce it to less than 2,500 and I did not quite make it. This will be  bigger focus again this year, weeding out the books I am no longer interested, while also reading books on my TBR instead of grabbing so many new ones from the library.

3. Reduce my Upcoming Reviews to less than 150 - I mean...it's worth a try? I am growing more and more concerned that this will never happen. I have culled the list many times for books I am no longer interested in reviewing. I am also a lot more selective about books that even go on the list. I am also trying to get more comfortable doing 'Review Bomb' and 'Mini Reviews' posts.

Do you have any bookish goals for 2022? Let me know in the comments or leave a link to your post.

Happy New Year and Happy Reading!

2021 Reading Goals Revisted

Now that we know 2021 basically sucked as much as 2020, I think we can all temper our expectations for 2022, right? For the love of God, get vaccinated and boosted already.

Starting in 2019, I really started relaxing my goals - as much as humanly possible for me, anyway. I am still hyper-competitive, even with myself, so I still set my actual book goal really high, and that won't likely change. But I have also allowed myself to read more fiction, and even a novella here and there. Wacky world, huh?

Here are my goals for 2021, let's see how I did...

1. Read 275 books - If I go solely by the Goodreads tracker, I blew this out of the water by reading 346 books. However, a chunk of those books belong to Eleanor AND I, and I do not count middle grade and elementary chapter books toward my goal unless I read it strictly for myself. My actual total for the year is 234. Not too shabby, even if I did not read 275.

2. Reduce my TBR to less than 2,500 books - So close! I am ending the year at 2,526 books and pretty proud of that fact. While I did not get rid of nearly as many as my first year doing this, I did clear quite a few I am no longer interested in. I consider this one a success as well.

3. Reduce my Upcoming Reviews to less than 150 - LOL. Yeah, right.

I chose to keep it much more simple in 2021 and I will be doing the same in 2022. Reading and blogging is supposed to be fun and I want it to stay that way. In past years I have put a lot of pressure on myself to participate in all my memes weekly and constantly have new content. But that kind of planning made things decidedly not fun and if blogging and reviewing isn't fun, then what's the point?

On January 1st I will have my 2022 reading goals up. Do you set goals for yourself each year, or just wing it?

Happy Reading!

Best of the Best | My Five-Star Reads for 2021

I am super lucky to have read some a-may-zing books this year. You will find them bellow, in no particular order. Out of 234 books total that I read (not counting the chapter books Eleanor and I read together) these were the ones I loved most!

Have you read any of these? Any on your TBR for 2022? Let me know!

Happy Reading,
Sarah
