Stacking the Shelves #359

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

  1. Right..... Are you READY?

I can't say that the Indie shop was 'disappointing' (it never is) but I didn't leave with *that* many - plus about half were hardbacks so I had a bit of a Tetris moment with my backpack. Then I went to The Mall.... and, well, stuff happened.... Oh, and I had one delivered too - it was 50% off! They MADE me buy it! So... I think you might be interested in 4-5, but I think you've already had/read one of them... Maybe...

    Fiction:

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Sen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M Pirsig

    Non-Fiction:

No More Napoleons - How Britain Managed Europe from Waterloo to World War One by Andrew Lambert
Murder Investigation Team - How Killers are Really Caught by Steven Keogh
I Don't Like Mondays - The True Story Behind America's First Modern School Shooting by N Leigh Hunt
Chokepoints - How Economic Warfare is Changing the World by Edward Fishman
Girl on Girl - How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves by Sophie Gilbert
The House Divided - Sunni, Shia and the Making of the Middle East by Barnaby Rogerson
Rebel Island - The Incredible History of Taiwan by Jonathan Clements
24 Hours in the Viking World - A Day in the Life of the People Who Lived There by Kirsten Wolf
Fallen - Everest and the Enigma of George Mallory by Mick Conefrey
The Great Wave - The Era of Radical Disruption and the Rise of the Outsider by Michiko Kakutani
The History of Ideas - Equality, Justice and Revolution by David Runciman
The Handover - How We Gave Control of Our Lives to Corporations, States and AIs by David Runciman
Policy of Deceit - Britain and Palestine, 1914-1939 by Peter Shambrook
The Carnation Revolution - The Day Portugal's Dictatorship Fell by Alex Fernandes
Unfortunately, She Was a Nymphomaniac - A New History of Rome's Imperial Women by Joan Smith

I think *that* will 'do me' for a while..........................

    1. Okay, whew this was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Still, here are the ones I'm adding to your sub-TBR:

I Don't Like Mondays - The True Story Behind America's First Modern School Shooting by N Leigh Hunt
Girl on Girl - How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves by Sophie Gilbert
24 Hours in the Viking World - A Day in the Life of the People Who Lived There by Kirsten Wolf
Policy of Deceit - Britain and Palestine, 1914-1939 by Peter Shambrook
Unfortunately, She Was a Nymphomaniac - A New History of Rome's Imperial Women by Joan
      Smith

The only one my library is Girl on Girl, so I've put a hold in. The rest will have to be requested, so fingers crossed! I'm not sure if they are crossed so that the books get ordered, or that they don't, lol.

    2. I pretty much always imagine the WORST possible outcome - so I'm nearly always pleasantly surprised it wasn't 'that' bad....

'Don't Like Monday's' *jumped* out at me because I loved the song & actually remember the incident in 1979. It might be interesting although I'm getting mixed vibes from it. I'll be scheduling it soon though but will be ready to DNF it! 'Viking World' was my 50% off one. How *could* I refuse!

Not back to the Indie shop until August (probably) so you've got plenty of time to catch your breath.... [lol]

    1. LOL!! First time in MONTHS that a comment went to spam and of course it was THAT one.

    2. Of COURSE! I saw it publish and then when I went back a little later to see your response it had vanished! It might have been the unusual size... [ponders] I was a bit horrified at the idea of retyping it though. Plus *finding* the books after they've been scattered into various piles.... [grin]
