  2. I *do* hope that you're both fully on the road to recovery. How's kiddo coping with her (presumably) first broken bone?

Only six from me - which is pretty good these days for two weeks! Mostly non-fiction (naturally) but nothing much to worry you. That'll be in a few weeks time when I go into 'town' to visit my fave indie bookshop... [grin]

    Fiction:

The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett

    Non-Fiction:

Dynamite - The Story of Class Violence in America by Louis Adamic
A is for Arsenic - The Poisons of Agatha Christie by Kathryn Harkup
Biomimicry - Innovation Inspired by Nature by Janine M Benyus
The Norman Conquest - William the Conqueror's Subjugation of England by Teresa Cole
Go Like Hell - Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans by A J Baime

    1. She was mad a lot for the first few days because it hurt so much and the splint annoyed her and she kept talking about how much she hated doors. But with Tylenol and time, she is doing much better. Last week the dr said she could remove the splint, and now she only has to tape it during the day at school, and at dance. Otherwise she can leave it. It's still bruised and a bit swollen, but healing really well. Thank you <3

I hope you love Harkup's book! It's fantastic!! I have not read Cole's book, but I do love 1066-related things...even though I hate William the Bastard.

    2. Good news with Eleanor's finger. Door can be NASTY! [grin] I was hoping that the Cole book was more about the aftermath of the Invasion and especially about the 'harrowing of the North' but looking quickly through it that doesn't seem to be the case. I guess I'll find out when I read it. Around the time I added Cole to my Wish List I also found another 1066 related book coming out soon. Amazing that they can still fine (or think they can find) much more to say about it!

    3. Indeed. Doors ARE jerks!

I read one recently that dealt more with the aftermath. Not suuuuper in-depth but sufficient.

The English Resistance: The Underground War Against the Normans by Peter Rex. I like that is speficially talked about Hereward and how he was not actually a Wake, most likely. Decent way to spend a couple hours!

    1. I read it because I saw it on your blog! I just finished it today and I am not sure how I feel about it. I liked a lot of it but the reveal part...I don't know. Parts didn't work at all. I'm conflicted!

  4. Paradise looks like a good (and timely) read.

    1. It was really good, much better than the one I reviewed recently that was published last year. This story was much more complete and much less cash-grabby sounding.

    1. I wanted to love that one and I was super invested in it a lot of the time, but the end did not work for me. Parts were great and parts were disappointing. Others have really loved it though, so give it a try!

    1. Paradise was really good. The Other Black Girl was a mixed bag of good and disappointing, and I am halfway through Empire of Pain, which is also really good.
