Stacking the Shelves #161

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

Happy Reading!

    1. You're up EARLY! or was this a pre-scheduled post? Then again you have a kiddo shaped alarm-clock and those things are difficult to ignore!!

Six for me this week with another in the post. Mostly fiction this time so little to nothing to interest you/worry about your bulging TBR.

      Non-Fiction:

The Good Ancestor - How to Think Long Term in a Short-Term World by Roman Krznaric
A Woman on No Importance - The Untold Story of Virginia Hall, WW2's Most Dangerous Spy by Sonia Purnell

      Fiction:

A Murder is Announced by Agatha Christie
The Mirror & the Light by Hilary Mantel
The Coffin Makers Garden by Stuart MacBride
The Search Party by Simon Lelic

    2. Pre-scheduled for sure! Luckily Eleanor has not woken up that early since she was a baby. I typially get until 8 AM or so on non-school days.

Make sure to get Harkup's A is for Arsenic ASAP, if you have not read it. I can't remember now. You will love it, if you haven't.

    3. Also Mantel...boooooooo. But you know how I feel about historical fiction!

    4. LOL on Historical fiction.... It's *fun* and definitely not to be taken seriously...... [grin] 'Arsenic' isn't scheduled yet but I will get around to it. But I do have some (potentially) bad news for you... I've just got back (about 3 hours ago) from a visit to my fave Indie book shop... I *think* I may have picked up one or two books you might be interested in..... But at least 5 of them were on my Amazon Wish List so yeah me! LOTS of money saved there!

    5. Uuuuggggghhhhhh. But there is also a decent chance that I already have them on my TBR, seeing as how many of our reading interests overlap. I am hoping, anyway! lol

  2. i got and just read "The Girl with the Phoney Name" by Charles Mathes. i can't believe i read a modern book! but i did and i really liked it a lot; it's sort of a pastiche of Christie/Allingham novels that was very well done. does this signal a change in my reading habits? only time will tell, haha...

  3. That's an interesting cover on that book. I haven't read the author. I didn't really add anything this week. I'm working on catching up with my TBR list.

    1. It ended up being a pretty standard thriller and I kind of figured which direction it was going after one of the characters was introduced. You'll probably still like it, but we have read so many thrillers, we are good at figuring them out, lol

  5. Hmm, that's an interesting cover design! Hope you enjoy it; I rarely find Prime First Reads that I'm interested in, but it's such a cool program.

    1. My Prime picks usually end up being duds that I hate. Occasionally I find a non-fiction offering that's good, but there are rarely non-fiction options. I tend to go for the thrillers and this one was a decent story. I think I have just read so many thrillers that I know what to look for, so I knew where it was going when a certain new character was introduced.

    1. It was a decent thriller. Nothing mind-blowing, but not a bad way to spend a couple hours!

    1. It was a pretty decent plot. Those who read thrillers often will likely figure out where it is going, but it was still a good way to spend a couple hours.

    2. Oh I know, and I sometimes mess with them - unless they're the sexually explicit ones, then I delete. There's one I have been getting lately that says they love my post and it is so hard to find reviewers, so I should go to such and such website to find reviewers. UM, I AM a reviewer, lol
