  1. As predicted a bit of a bumper crop for me this week after my twice yearly visit into 'town' and my favourite Indie bookshop. 11 in total - mostly non-fiction:

    Fiction:

Ghosts of Manhattan by George Mann

    Non-Fiction:

Patriot of Persia - Muhammad Mossadegh and a Very British Coup by Christopher de Bellaigue
    MI9 - Escape and Evasion by M R D Foot and J M Langley
The Light Ages - A Medieval Journey by Seb Falk
River Kings - The Vikings from Scandinavia to the Silk Roads by Cat Jarman
Testosterone Rex - Unmaking the Myths of Our Gendered Minds by Cordelia Fine
A Mind of its Own - How Our Brain Distorts and Deceives by Cordelia Fine
Apollo 11 - The Inside Story by David Whitehouse
Rise of the Rocket Girls - The Women Who Propelled US, From Missiles to The Moon to Mars by Nathalia Holt
Secret Alliances - Special Operations and Intelligence in Norway 1940-1945 by Tony Insall
The Vaccine Race - Science, Politics, and the Human Costs of Defeating Disease by Meredith Wadman

Possibly a *few* that might interest you but probably not as bad as you were expecting [grin]

  2. Ooh I also have The Sanatorium on my TBR, so I'll be eager to see what you think of it. So far the reaction among my other bookish friends has been pretty mixed.

    1. Honestly...it took forever for me to slog through. There's absolutely zero indication of why the murders are occurring, so the reader has no chance to even make an educated guess. It's all over the place and there's no cohesion whatsoever. I will definitely be skipping the rest of the series!

  3. The Sanatorium. Yes.

I need Never Saw Me Coming as well.

    1. Never Saw Me Coming is a major YES!!!!

The Sanatorium ended up being awful. The reader had no backstory on which to make any educated guesses as to why the murders were occurring, so it wasn't a "twist" it was just word vomit at the end. Blech.

  5. Looks like some heavy topics in this lot!

You know, I haven't bought or borrowed any new books this week or last... maybe I'm broken!

    1. Heavy yes, but also very worthwhile.

Moderation is good...maybe no books this past week means dozens next week!
