Books From The Backlog #7

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

Why did I add Elizabeth's Women: Friends, Rivals, and Foes Who Shaped the Virgin Queen to my TBR?

Blah blah, her life was so hard, blah blah. I love Tudor history but I absolutely can not stand Elizabeth. She was a spoiled, manipulative brat. So, mostly I added this to my list because I like reading about those rivals and foes especially.

Have you read this book, or is it on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

"Maybe I should be a vampire instead of a princess," said Annie.

Eleanor and I LOVE this series. She can pretty much read them to herself at this point (she's six), but we love reading them together.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Stacking the Shelves #59

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

School started this week for students, so reading has been minimal - as has the acquiring of new treasures. Once we are back into a routine, this will be back to normal!

What did you add to your stash this week?

Happy Reading!

Tackling the TBR | Week 30: Aug 8 - Aug 14, 2019

I am desperately trying to get my TBR under control. I have a huge backlog of books and often end up reading new books that are not even on my list, instead of trying to whittle down the list that continues to balloon up on Goodreads. Chuckles had the idea first, and we are going to use this as a chance to encourage each other to get those books read instead of always grabbing new ones and thus never making a dent in the physical and digital stacks we already have. It will also give us a chance to take a good look at our lists and see if there are ones we are no longer interested in. We will be posting on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and the last day of the month.

Previous Week's TBR Total: 3,237

Books Added to TBR: 1

Books Removed from TBR: 0

Books Read: 2

Books DNF-ed: 0

New TBR Total: 3,236

Eleanor started school Monday, and my students came back today. I will get around to everyone's blogs this week, maybe even before the weekend.

Books From The Backlog #6

Why did I add Mary Tudor: Princess, Bastard, Queen to my TBR?

This may come as a shock to some, but the Plantagenets were not always my fave dysfunctional family. The Tudors were my first love and I have always felt extremely sad for Mary and the lot she was cast in life, thanks to her father.

Have you read this book, or is it on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

My numbers are all kinds of screwed up because Eleanor and I spent the last two weeks home in Minnesota and I did not keep track like I normally do. My numbers increased by six, but that is because I found a couple new books while browsing at the library lately. Pretty darn good for not really tallying anything.

So Long, Summer!

I'm not crying, I swear,

Except I am, because Eleanor and I had a totally amazing summer and tonight it is coming to an end. Teacher work days start tomorrow, and my students return next Wednesday.

Eleanor starts school on Monday.

MONDAY.

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I am going to work this weekend on getting posts prepped for the next few weeks because let me tell you the truest thing in the whole world:

"There is no tired like teacher-in-the-first-week-of-school tired."

Be well, friends. My schedule for the time-being (first few weeks/month of the year) will be to mainly visit/comment on the weekends. Please know that I am reading all your lovely words here and will be 'round to your blogs just as soon as I am able.

"Have you ever had a riot? I ask a recruiter from the Corrections Corporation of America."

For those who do not understand how terrible these for-profit prisons are, this is a must read. Actually, it should be a must-read anyway. The treatment-of-inmates link from slavery to prison plantations to for-profit prisons is clear and abhorrent.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Books From The Backlog #5

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

Why did I add The Nazi Olympics to my TBR?

I have been interested in The Holocaust, Nazis, and WWII for as long as I can remember. I've read anything I could get my hands on, from elementary school, on. This is one aspect of Hitler and the Nazis before the war that I know almost nothing about.

Have you read this book, or is it on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?
