Books From The Backlog #3

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

I stumbled on this one thanks (again) to Chuckles. I have been toying with this one for a while because I have so many memes and features that I participate in, there are hardly time for reviews it feels like. But I am hoping this will also help with my whole TBR situation, so I can find some treasures that I have forgotten about.

Why did I add History of the Goths to my TBR?

Because it never fails to amaze me that the Roman Empire was brought to its end in such a way. Not all at once, but over the course of years until the empire was so weak, it could not longer defend itself as it had in earlier centuries.

Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

  1. OK, I'll play. First Man, The Life of Neil A Armstrong by James R Hansen. I bought it after I watched the movie, First Man because the credits said it was based on this biography of Armstrong. Then the book went and sat politely on my shelves.

    1. At least it was polite and did not make a ruckus! I've also had that same book on my TBR since December 23rd, 2014. Perhaps we can do a buddy read in the future :)

  2. The oldest book on my Amazon Wish List (which I've just this minute checked) was added on 20th April 2008. It is:

Waging War without Warriors?: The Changing Culture of Military Conflict by Christopher Coker.

    1. Isn't it crazy to go back and look at what we were interested in many years ago, and we find we may or may not still be interested? A lot of the books I have deleted, from those earlier years on Goodreads, partly because my interests have changed but also because I have read really really great books on the same topic and I know that they can't possibly be better, or add new information - especially those written sometimes decades earlier.

  3. I hate to admit that I don't know a whole lot about the Roman Empire. This does sound really interesting! I hope you enjoy it when you do get the chance to read it!

    1. Thanks Carole! I am kind of picky about WHAT I am interested in regards to the Roman Empire. I like daily life stuff, and Pompeii, and Roman Britain, but books about the emperors put me to sleep reeeeealllly fast.

  4. I still have books I added to my TBR in 2010 and 2011 which is depressing so I hope to tackle a few during my autumn reading!

    1. Yes!! That's why I thought this feature would help me in conjunction with our TBR thing, because I can finally get some of those super old ones cleared out.
