Happy 4th of July!

🎆🎆🎆🎆Happy 4th of July, America!🎆🎆🎆🎆

I LOVE the 4th. Love, love, love it. It is my favorite holiday.

This year, I am choosing to ignore the hijacking of this holiday and all that bullshit going on in DC, because I am not going to let him ruin it for me. For today, I am going to celebrate the things that already make America a great nation. Then tomorrow it is back to work, doing everything I can to make sure 2020 yields a different outcome.

Eleanor and I are very lucky to live very close to the best fireworks show in Omaha. We can watch from the deck without having to deal with the crowds and traffic, and I am SO EXCITED. We also set of fireworks of our own before the big show starts, and every year Eleanor gets more and more brave - though of course she can not light them herself yet, it does not stop her from asking!

I have so many fond memories of the 4th of July at my grandparents' old house, when I was a child. They lived just outside of town, and across the road was a hill that we would drive up and park at the top of. From the hill you could see the fireworks shows of so many surrounding towns, it was wonderful.

How do you and your family celebrate the 4th of July?

Happy fireworks-ing!
(and reading, which I will be doing until Eleanor comes home from her dad's for the show!)

  1. Happy Independence Day! You can't beat a GOOD fireworks display.... [lol]

We tend to keep the day for silent reflection.... [grin] Just think... If we'd won the War of Independence HE could be MY President too.... But you two have FUN. That's the main thing!

    1. Ha! One of my favorite memes is a picture of Elizabeth II and the words "Happy Treason Day, Peasants". It cracks me up every time I see it.

We had such fun tonight, I will probably post a little something about it tomorrow after we've had a good, long sleep. It's very exhausting being so patriotic.

  2. Hope you had a great day! It isn't a thing in the UK so I wasn't doing anything special yesterday, just reading and watching TV!

    1. It was wonderful. I am going to post some pictures shortly - plus one of my most fave Queen Elizabeth II memes. I'd imagine that this day doesn't matter one bit to the UK ;)

  3. We had a lovely day with one of my favorite nephews and his wife, two daughters, their niece and her parents. We ate lots of delicious foods, the little girls asked me for a tour of our house to show them all the rooms (they are 8.5 and 5.5 years old), my husband took them on a walk around the neighborhood to see the peacocks, the girls played all the instruments in his studio, then we set off some fireworks they brought in the back yard before it was dark because they had to go home and pack for a trip to Michigan for a family reunion. I fell asleep last night feeling transformed by the love and the particular joys of being around little girls.

    1. It was beautiful! Everything I always want the 4th to be, sitting on a blanket under the stars, watching the fireworks fill the sky, with my baby girl beside me. Hope you had a great 4th as well!
