Stacking the Shelves #111

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

*I don't really get a book allowance from my mom. She came to visit over Labor Day Weekend and bought Eleanor a spy kit that she has been wanting for aaaaaages. Being the mature adult that I am, I started on about that wasn't fair at all and I should get to have some new books if Eleanor was getting her spy kit. So, yeah, Mom gave me her debit card and I got to buy some books at Half-Price Books in the amount of what Eleanor's spy kit cost. Bonus, five of the books were already on my TBR - including the Dracula one!

    1. Oh, and I bought a book on the history of Babylon. It doesn't count because it was on sale for $1. I'm really wailing away at the TBR, so I deserve it. :D

You'll like the Scots book, I think! The author's a bit casual but I always learn about new areas of history (like Scottish architecture, in this case) from his books.

    2. Sorry, I gotta do two separate comments. Odd numbers really bother me. I'm a weirdo.

I agree it doesn't count if it was only $1. I am trying to whittle down the TBR but it is so hard now that school is back in session. And I stupidly keep requesting from the library, so I guess the TBR is doomed to stagnant or grow. OI!

    1. Our library is now closed this week because they are starting to open branches. I don't think it is a good idea, but I am glad they are keeping curbside available too. We have maybe 16 branches throughout the city, around there, and they are opening in phases with just a few at a time.

  7. You should always be able to know how to argue for books. Well done to you!! Enjoy all your new books.

Have a good week with great hair days! (You can read my post to understand this statement)

    1. Funny you say 'great hair day' because I chopped ten inches off my hair two days ago and then regretted it immediately. My hair is super long and we started with six inches and I said sure, cut off four more. Bad, bad choice and now I am miserable!

    2. The great thing about hair mistakes is that it grows back - eventually!

    3. Eleanor cried yesterday when she saw it. She hates it too! Luckily, my hair tends to grow really fast. By this time next year (possibly a little sooner) it will be back down past my waist again.

    4. I used to have long hair back in my callow youth. For a time - when I was around 14-15 I think - I had the longest hair in our year, including the girls as it was the fashion then for them to have short hair. Then one day @ Uni I was in a barbers with a friend and one of the barbers joking asked me if I was next. OK, I said and sat in the chair. What would you like, he asked. Short back & sides I said..... and he did. I went from hair below my shoulder blades to VERY short in one go. The next few days people walked right by me who didn't recognise me. I've has short hair ever since.

    5. I know you said no pictures, but I want to see one of those long-haired pictures of you some day!! And that's about how long mine is right now, hitting just below my shoulder blades, if that. To everyone else my hair is still really long, but they quickly have forgotten that my hair used to fall down past my waist! (I am still sulking about my more life choice.)

    6. As a child my younger sister was very proud of her hair - at times she could sit on it! These days that length takes far too much maintenance so she 'bobbed' it years ago. These days it's just around ear length. My brother essentially shaves his head when it grows more than a few millimetres 'tall'. I haven't quite gone THAT far yet! Presently I'm randomly hacking at it to keep it under control. There's just some annoying bits that are difficult to reach & impossible to see without multiple mirrors!

    7. I admit, I am quite proud of my hair too. One might even say I am a bit vain about it, but I am working on being more humble about how amazing and healthy my hair is. That is a work in progress as you can tell, lol.

  8. I can refuse my daughter a new doll, but never a new book. :-) These all sound good, Sarah. The Crimes of Paris especially. Oo! And look at thos library books! I really liked Dear Martin, and hope you will too. I think I have a copy of White Rage on my e-reader. I've heard it is a must read. I hope you have a great week!

    1. I am the same way! It was so hard to not get anything from the book order this month because there are so many we wanted but Eleanor made the competition team at her dance studio so literally evry penny is going to pay for that! ...and of course I will still somehow find a way to order books next month, lol
