Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.
MIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Author Gifts
I have read this one before and the topic was of interest, but there were errors that were too many or too big to ignore. The author asked if I would be willing to reread again after a couple more rounds of editing and I accepted the book. I previously received it via BookSirens.

Happy Reading!

MORE Jones?
ReplyDeleteIt actually came out ages ago and I have been waiting since March for it to arrive, which is when it was published in the US. But I kept getting notices of shipping delays and I was about ready to just use Amazon UK when it FINALLY shipped. It's a short little volume and fun and weird.
DeleteSome interesting thriller titles there, and a few horror - getting a jump on Halloween stories? :)

Oh for sure, it's my favorite time of year!!
DeleteInteresting assortment of books. I hope you enjoy them all. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy! You too!
DeleteThe Tale of the Tailor and the Three Dead Kings sounds really interesting. I love a good ghost story! I hope the author was able to make all the necessary corrections to Womb Raiders. I always wonder if authors go back and make changes if mistakes are found. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a weird story and I think probably scarier in the medieval world when they believed much more heavily in the weirdness. It is hard to describe but it's a shot little treat and I read it in about an hour or so. Lots of fun.
DeleteAs for Womb Raiders, I hope so too. The topic is important, but there were SO MANY errors, and tense changes, and it was a mess. The author said it had gone through two more rounds of editing, as well as a gra,,ar check program. Fingers crossed that I am not wasting my time!
An average 4 for me this week, but as lately little to disturb your TBR.
ReplyDeleteFiction:
Triflers Need Not Apply by Camilla Bruce
The Mobster's Lament by Ray Celestin
Non-Fiction:
The Splendid and The Vile by Erik Larson
The Unfortunate Colonel Despard and the British Revolution that Never Happened by Mike Jay
I love Erik Larson normally, but could NOT get into that book at all. I've read all his other work; Devil in the White City and Dead Wake remain my most faves, but Isaac's Storm is a close second to them. Maybe it is because I don't really care about Churchill? I don't know. But I had to DNF it, and I never imagined that happening with a Larson book.
DeleteI remember you having problems with it, especially after looking forward to it. I'll be reading it as part of my 'England Alone' set (which I must really get back into next year).
DeleteYes!! I am always excited for a new Larson book, so I was really bummed that it did not hook me. Hopefully you have better luck than I did.
DeleteA very great group of books here!
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good on the reading front. A DNF for Dead Girls, unfortunately, but otherwise smooth sailing.
DeleteHurrah for more Dan Jones - can never go wrong there.
ReplyDeleteI read Voodoo Histories a few years ago, very interesting reading. The Last House on Needless Street sounds fascinating!
I've been waiting on that dang book since March. But due to shipping issues I just got it, despite it being published ages ago. Still, a fun little treat; medieval ghost stories are so weird.
DeleteGreat group of books. Dead Girl's Can't Tell Secrets looks interesting and perfect for cold fall weather. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I ended up DNF-ing Dead Girls unfortunately, I was so bummed. But you might enjoy it, give it a try!
