First Line Friday #209

First Line Friday is a weekly feature and simple to do - grab the book nearest you and post the first line. Carrie hosts this over on her blog Reading is my Superpower.

On the night of April 18, 1908, in the railroad town of Bellefontaine, Ohio, eighteen-year-old Chales Demar walked into the fruit shop he owned with his uncle, Salvatore Cira, and put a bullet into his uncle's head.

Happy Reading!

"You can hear it everywhere. These are just the worst times ever, and we all know it. We're awash in crime and drugs and joblessness. We're killing ourselves, intentionally and accidentally."

    1. I have a few more that I've read that are like this, especially that start of the Black Hand, and crimes in the early 1900s, if you're interested!
