Happy First Line Friday. I am so very excited for the book I am sharing this week, because though it is not about Eleanor of Aquitaine, it is about another Mighty Girl who I absolutely adore.
Not only do I adore Ruth Bader Ginsburg - or Notorious RBG, as I like to call her - but here is a book that I can use to introduce her to my own Mighty Girl. Here is the first line(S):
"You could say that Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life has been one disagreement after another...Disagreement with creaky old ideas. With unfairness. With inequality. Ruth has disagreed, disapproved, and differed. She has objected. She has resisted. She has dissented. Disagreeable? No. Determined? Yes. This is how Ruth Bader Ginsburg changed her life - and ours."
Notorious RBG, please live forever.

ReplyDeleteYes! There are a few more books I found on A Mighty Girl that talk about women in history and there are currently in my shopping cart on Amazon. I want Eleanor to always know that she has many choices for role models, not just Disney Princesses (who we also love).

ReplyDeleteRBG is the second female ever appointed to the Supreme Court in the US. She is pretty much the coolest, and is not retiring any time soon - thank goodness! Her voice of reason is sorely needed.

DeleteI've been having trouble sleeping and was recommended to read before bed. It wasn't helping cause I was reading books that made me think too much so I switched to mindless drivel and ... success! Interestingly enough my first line of yesterday went really well with your Notorious RGB lines. The book is The Bride Thief. A friend left it with me when she moved back home and I'm only a few pages in. About a page a night helps me relax enough to sleep. Thank heavens! "Luckily, Major Wilshire finds neither your advanced age nor your keen intellect overly offputting." Haha. Oh dad! This character's parents are trying to marry off their "over the hill" 26-year-old daughter to a fifty-year-old man who will not stand for her doing science experiments with her bro. Oh my!
