Top Ten Tuesday | Books I Enjoyed That Are Outside My Comfort Zone

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is about those books I really enjoyed that were outside my comfort zone. My comfort zone is DEFINITELY NOT books classified as YA, and yet here we are...

Full disclosure, I plowed through the entirety of PLL and GG a couple summers ago when I got super far behind on my Goodreads challenge. In under two weeks, I had read all of each series. Pretty Little Liars was so good for the first four, even eight books. But after that it was just plain absurd. Yet I had to keep reading to see just how over the top the next set of four would be. I guess when you wrap up your series after four books and everything is resolved, but the show is hit, you need to keep writing more books and get more and more ridiculous. As for Gossip Girl, what can I say? I'm a sucker for books about rich, spoiled brats I suppose.

Have you read any of these? Are any on your TBR? Leave a link to your TTT also and I will be sure to visit.

Happy Reading!
Sarah

    1. SO GOOD! SO, SO GOOD! I cried through most of it, mainly because any one of my students could be in that situation and it scares me so badly for them.

    1. I am super excited for the sequel to Lying, I don't know if I can last until January though, I want to read it YESTERDAY!! Two Can Keep a Secret was even better I think, than Lying. So good.

  3. Dude, right??? about Two Can Keep? Although I do read more YA than you, I think, but yeah that's an awesome choice. :) And her other one too. Pretty Little Liars looks like fun. :) I watched some of that show a while ago...

    1. PLL WAS fun! Until it got ridiculous. And by the end I just wanted to see if the murderer would next escape to the moon. Because, seriously. That was just as likely as what ACTUALLY happened.

  4. I'm glad you found so many YA books that you enjoyed. And, yeah, The Hate U Give was a great read.

    1. I have been pleasantly surprised by the YA I have read, I have lucked out in having great blogger buddies who seem to know just want to recommend.

  5. YA is no longer a favoured genre for me-I read too many crap copies of Twilight over a few years and got sick of the tropes! I liked the first set of Pretty Little Liars books the but when it went on to the second arc with the new secret I lost interest. I do plan to try Karen McManus though.

    1. Uuuuugggghhhhh, Twilight. Gross. I will say that up through book 8 (where it should have ended) was still solid. The rest was absolute garbage. McManus is awesome! I am going to go crazy waiting for One of Us is Next.

  6. Gossip Girl was so fun lol. I think the show was better for me only because they made Chuck way cooler than he was in the books. It was just nice to see what they came up with for who would play each character. I never read PLL but the show was pretty good from what I watched.

    1. It was fun! I have never watched either show, but I enjoyed the books (or, to a certain point, in the case of PLL)

  7. I'm not big on YA either, but sometimes you can find some real gems. ROFL @ having to finish PLL just because though. I'm the same way.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    1. I seriously thought by the last book, someone was going to end up on the moon. Because, seriously. THAT was just as likely as what actually happened.

  8. I haven't read any of these, but I did read On the Come Up. I've been reading quite a bit of YA lately.

  9. I need to finish The Hate You Give... i have been in a slight reading slump! I also read the first 4 books of PLL i personally did not care for it, might have been because i finished the t.v. show and was basing the book fully off of what i seen.

    1. The Hate U Give was phenomenal. I cried most of the way through and could not put it down. I never watched the show, so I liked the first 8 books of PLL.

  10. As you know, I loved The Hate U Give. I have stayed away from PLL just out of spite I think.

    1. Well now you can read them! The first four were really good. The second four were solid. The remaining eight were DUMPSTER FIRES.

The Hate U Give will forever and always be one of my favorite reads.

    1. I liked it because it was unusual and not my typical read. I am not usually one for horror.

  12. Great list! Seeing Gossip Girl on here (with that original cover!) is giving me major throwback vibes haha I used to love that series so much when I read it in HS 😂 I totally became obsessed with that A-List world (thankfully over it now LOL). THUG was one of my favorites last year and I really enjoyed One of Us Is Lying too--it was unexpected!

    1. Riiiight?! I love those covers, they were always perfect for the book. I did not read the spin-off series, but might venture back to that world if I am in a slump again. Something about that kind of book helps me out in those slumps and gets me back on track again.

I LOVED THUG and Lying. I cannot wait for One of Us is Next, I am checking NetGalley every day to see if an ARC goes up. I CAN'T WAIT FOR JANUARY!!
