  1. Pandemic 1918 seems quite relevant to now...

    1. yes, that's why I decided to look into it - so many comparisons between now and then and it's an event I know almost nothing about.

  2. We went into a 2nd National lockdown on Thursday - like much of Europe - so I made a quick trip to the Mall for 'non-essential' purchases in advance..... [grin]

    All non-fiction

Shackleton's Heroes - The Epic Story of the Men who Kept the Endurance Expedition Alive by Wilson McOrist
Sea People - In Search of the Ancient Navigators of the Pacific by Christina Thompson
The Last Battle - Endgame on the Western Front, 1918 by Peter Hart
The Great Influenza - The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History by John M Barry
Pale Rider - The Spanish Flu of 1918 and How It Changed the World by Laura Spinney

No big purchases planned for the next 4 weeks as all my upcoming books will need to be bought online only.....

BTW - How are your anxiety/stress levels? Much calmer I hope/expect as the results continue to roll in...

    1. I wish we would have some kind of national lockdown, but it would be impossible to enforce because of the election and chaos that is to come. We now have three confirmed cases of Covid in my school among staff members, though I am fairly certain there are more than that, given the teacher absence list. It makes it very hard to go to work right now, as I don't want to end up bringing it home to Eleanor.

The Great Influenza and Pale Rider are on my TBR already! I am interested in the Sea People, and will await your thoughts.

I am so blissfully happy tonight. I know the next three months are going to be terrible and we will be tested, but good will prevail. I know it, because there is no other option. We have won and will continue the fight as long as we have to.

      Stay safe, friend!

    1. I was really digging it too, until the end. It just fell so flat and I was so disappointed.

  7. I just finished Donoghue's The Pull of the Stars about the 1918 pandemic. Harrowing. I enjoyed The Guest List and will be interested in your thoughts on it.

    1. Is Donoghue's book fiction or non-fiction? I really liked The Guest List too! I had one part of the mystery figured out pretty quickly but that did not lessen my enjoyment at all. Have you read The Hunting Party? I am debating whether or not to read it next.

  8. These all sound good, Sarah. When Force Meets Fate sounds interesting. I don't read a lot of memoirs, but this one has me curious. I hope you enjoy all of these when you read them! Have a great week!

    1. Ah, Les Mis!

Caste is going along better than I thought it would, considering the subject matter. It's a great read and I think you will like it.
