Stacking the Shelves #40

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc. Never has my addiction been more obvious than when I am now keeping track of every single book I acquire.

What did you add to your stash this week?

Happy Reading!

  1. The Farrow book sounds interesting, if provocatively titled.

    1. Ugh, right?? And I totally forgot to delete that paragraph from last week. This week back was the looooongest of the year it felt like.

Two Can Keep a Secret is so good so far, I think I am on page 130 now.

  3. Oh, and I bought two books in English history -- "Empire on the Edge: How Britain Came to Fight America", and "Ten Cities That Made an Empire".

    1. I go back and forth on Empire on the Edge and finally deleted it for good because I am so burned out on that time period. I'll probably add it back again in the future. Ten Cities is already on my TBR, so for once I didn't add anything from your list!

  4. 4 books in so far. One I bought used on-line: Fashioning Teenagers, A Cultural History of Seventeen magazine (for research). 3 are library books: The Art Book, big and heavy and filled with 500 prints of painters from over the world and across time. Then two thrillers, Deep South by Nevada Barr and Secret Servant by Daniel Silva. I have read 4 books this week so no danger to the balance!

    1. I used to love Seventeen magazine, I added that one to my TBR. It is always a relief when in and out numbers are close!

  5. Only FIVE! [lol] The Ronan Farrow book is on my 'watch' list. He's a VERY smart cookie from the interviews I've seen him give.

'Only' 4 for me this week:

    Fiction:

    Transcription by Kate Atkinson
Bright Dead Things by Jessica Fellowes
The Killing Habit by Mark Billingham

    Non-Fiction:

They Fought Alone: The True Story of SOE's Agents in Wartime France by Maurice Buckmaster

    2. 'They Fought Alone' is one of a series of classic books about wartime espionage in both World Wars. I've been collecting them [grin] Not only do I have a deep fascination with such things I'm also fascinated with the SoE itself and, naturally, resistance activities in Occupied Europe.

    3. I have tried and tried to get myself interested in espionage but I just can't. I don't know if it the specific wars that is not interesting me, or what. Maybe I will try one from the series you mentioned and give those a go.

Also, nice work on only four!

  6. I've heard good things about Karen McManus and her plots sound interesting. If I see them cheap I might snaffle them!

    1. THEY ARE SO GOOD!!! I think her first one was better, but both were amazing so you can't go wrong with either.

    1. I'm reading it now but there are two people waiting on it after me, so I can't renew it if I don't finish it before the due date :(
