Tackling the TBR | Week 35: Sept 15 - Sept 21, 2019

Basically, I have a huge TBR and often end up reading new books that are not even on my list, instead of trying to whittle down the list that continues to balloon on Goodreads. I am going to make a real effort to get those books read instead of always grabbing new ones and thus never making a dent in the physical and digital stacks I already have. It will also gives me a chance to take a good look at my list and see if there are ones I'm no longer interested in. I will be posting on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and the last day of the month.

Previous Week's TBR Total: 3,244

Currently Reading: 6

Books Added to TBR: 3

Books Removed from TBR: 20

Books Read: 3

Books DNF-ed: 0

Duplicates Removed: 0

New TBR Total: 3,227

    1. Thanks Greg! Slowly but surely I am getting back into a rhythm for both Eleanor and I to find our big pockets of time to read again. I think I may get to 3,000 by the end of the year!!

    1. Thank you Nicci!! It is hard sometimes, especially when I find treasures at the library that were not on my TBR. But the weekly check has helped me SO MUCH. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress when you start!!

  3. I have told myself that I AM NOT BUYING ANYMORE BOOKS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!!! Hopefully that will whittle down the pile. Like you, however, I find myself reading books not on my pile, from the library or online.

How did you get rid of 20 books? Give them away?

    1. I have said that as well and for the most part am sticking to it because I have so many on my physical shelf here at home that are not read yet. It is a giant five-shelf bookcase, books piled two-deep. Yet off to the library I go! Weekly!

The twenty that came off the list are from my TBR on Goodreads. I set the search to random, and the cull the list that way, finding books I am no longer interested in. If it is a book I have purchased and physically own, I tend to force myself to read them through, so as not to completely waste my money.

  4. I took a book off my 1964 TBR because it was so dark and gritty. Then I learned it was a banned book and since this is Banned Books week, I put it back on. Taking it in small doses. Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby, Jr. It is about the forgotten people struggling down below.

    1. I hate when that happens! With me, I will remove a book, and then someone recommends it so I am like, oh crap back on the list it goes!
