Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.
Library Treasures
I'm giving The Man from the Train a try again. I chucked it around 130 pages some time ago because the author was annoyingly flippant, which is incredibly tasteless when you consider the victims died violent and horrible deaths. And a lot of the victims were children. However, because there is not a lot of material available on these cases or this idea of one serial killer, I am giving it another go. And Villisca is particularly near and dear to me. I've been to that house and it is 100% haunted, no question.

Happy Reading!

That looks like some heavy duty reading. I've received a few books from Book Sirens as well but I'm just overwhelmed with ARCS right now..... Happy Reading.

I do wonder what I have gotten myself into. None of these were even on hold when my daughter and I went to return some books. I just started wandering the stacks and BOOM. Walked out with these.
DeleteI do struggle a bit with BookSirens, but want to be open-minded and I always remind myself that there are hidden gems everywhere. But, authors MUST invest in editors. I have read a few books where it seemed like that step of the process was bypassed completely and the book suffered greatly for it.
Ah, death and, erm... more death! Summer reading @ it's best. Three for me this week. As per, nothing much to interest you.
ReplyDeleteFiction:
While Paris Slept by Ruth Druart
Non-Fiction:
The Great Depression & The New Deal - A Very Short Introduction by Eric Rauchway
Blitzkrieg - A History of the Nazis' Lightning War by Bryan Perrett
And none of these were holds, I just randomly picked them up when I got stuck in the True Crime section while Eleanor was lollygagging in the children's section even though she already has fifty library books plus the hundreds that she owns, at home.
DeleteI may or may not want to read the Depression/New Deal. Hmmm.
Now there's a word you don't hear often - 'Lollygagging'....... [grin]
DeleteIt's one of my favorites! Along with malarky and discombobulate.
DeleteThat's a READERS vocabulary! [lol]
DeleteFor sure! My students are learning lots of big words this year.
DeleteI'm reading about crazed surfers (The Swell by Allie Reynolds) and I picked up Madam. Yay Greg!!! :):)
ReplyDeleteYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!! I hope you love it so much!
DeleteI almost bought The Ruins too, I had to stop myself everything at Barnes & Noble is like $30 now!!!!!
DeleteIt's pretty gross, which is why I love the library.
DeleteThat does seem to be a rather bloody bunch of books. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteAnd it was not even intentional! None of the books were on hold, I just wandered around and never made it out of the True Crime section.
DeleteI've given authors a second chance with other books, but never the same one. Good luck. I hope you can stand it long enough to get the information you are looking for. 📘
ReplyDeleteI believe in ghosts, too! 👻👻👻
Have a wonderful week. 🌞
Thank you!! I really want to know the info that ties all the cases together, so I will be paying close attention to the bibliography and see what I can get from that as well.
DeleteI have been very lucky to have some incredible paranormal experiences - at Villisca, at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, and The Palmer House Hotel in Sauk Centre, MN.
That's great you're giving it a second chance. Sometimes it just isn't the time to read it. Have a great day. :)
ReplyDeleteI am hoping it goes better this time!
DeleteMurder and death. Can't go wrong!
ReplyDeleteRIGHT?! My comfort topics, lol
