Tackling the TBR Week 1: Jan 1-Jan 7, 2019

Each week I will be keeping track of books that I have read from my TBR. I have a huge backlog of books and often end up reading new books that are not even on my list, instead of trying to whittle down the list that continues to balloon up on Goodreads. Chuckles had the idea first, and we are going to use this as a chance to encourage each other to get those books read instead of always grabbing new ones and thus never making a dent in the physical and digital stacks we already have. It will also give me a chance to take a good look at my list and see if there are ones I am no longer interested in. We will be posting on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and the last day of the month.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Previous Week's TBR Total: 4,323

Previous Week's Currently Reading Total: 66

Books Added to TBR This Week: 11

Books Removed from TBR This Week: 0

Books Finished This Week: 4

Books DNF-ed This Week: 0

New Currently Reading: 62

New TBR Total: 4,334

(Note: This is kind of an odd week, with the 66 books on my TBR. I have some cozy mystery boxed sets I am trying to get read quickly. It is easier when I start the set to get all the books on the 'Currently Reading' at once instead of just adding one at a time. There are also some NetGalley ARCs I am reading, as well as an ARC for a publisher and a couple I am reading with Eleanor. The actual total on my 'Currently Reading' Shelf is 110, but the remaining books are for research for my own book that I am writing about Eleanor of Aquitaine.)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

How out-of/in-control is your TBR? How do you maintain order, or is it a mess like mine?

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. 4 books is a good week! Can you believe I haven't finished A book yet in 2019? Other than a few graphic novels. I'm slacking basically. :)

  2. I think we've both had a solid start! I've managed to delete a pile from the e-reader this week based on first in a series books I didn't finish and their sequels! That helps! I still have to find the list of stuff I haven't added to my TBR yet. I've no idea where it's hiding!

    1. That does help so much. I think that will end up helping me as well with some of these cozy mysteries. Some are so terrible I can't help but keep reading, for the sheer hilarity value, but some are just boring and so I toss them and can do the same with the sequels. I'm also going to take a harder look tonight at what I can delete because I am no longer interested. Good luck with finding your list!

  3. So... If I'm reading this right.... Your TBR just went *UP* by 11??? [grin] Oh, and are you currently reading SIXTY TWO books? Maybe that's my problem... I only read 1 or 2 books at once... [lol]

    1. YES! I am sure you are not surprised though :)

      I don't normally have SO many books going at once, just these huge cozy mystery sets. I usually have 8-10 going at any given time, excluding what Eleanor and I are reading at the moment. I find it really hard to just straight read through most books - but those five star reads I posted about at the end of the year were definitely the exceptions.

  4. Good luck with reducing your TBR! I had 8 books show up in my mailbox today, so I need to get reading.

    1. Thank you AJ! This first week was a little rough because I did not have a lot of time to start going through and deciding what I am still interested in and what can be removed. More progress is already being made in week 2, thank goodness!

      I am incredibly jealous of eight new books, hope you enjoy your new treasures!
