Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.
I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.
Neglected Book of the Week
Why did I add The Nile and Its People: 7000 years of Egyptian History to my TBR?
Because, Ancient Egypt. I also got this book back in December of 2012 when an Egyptian exhibit was featured at the Science Museum of Minnesota. I started reading it even, but got sidetracked with the whole 'morning sickness' part of being pregnant, and the print was small, and for some reason, that REALLY SMALL print really irritated me. Hormones, eh. What can you do? Anyway, I should get back to it, and get it finished. I will. At some point.
Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?
Some time ago I added The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett to my TBR after reading a review from Helen of She Reads Novels. I have finally read it and it was the most challenging of any historical fiction I have read. It takes place in Scotland, just after Henry VIII died when Mary, Queen of Scots is just four years old! It took me 9 days to read, OMG. That is a very long time for me to be reading just one book. But, after I finally figured out what was going on, who everyone was and the geography of Scotland, I loved it!ReplyDelete
That is quite a long time to read for you - but Scotland is so fantastic and magical, that it would be totally worth it to me.Delete
I love reading up on Ancient Egypt and Egyptology projects. Hate small print these days, too. :)ReplyDelete
Same! I have read some really great books on the subject in the last couple years.Delete
I sometimes just cannot do fine print. I have been know to request large print books from the library if I decide my copy's print is too small. I hope you get the chance to read and enjoy this one, Sarah!ReplyDelete
Thank you kindly, Carole. I am going to have to start ordering large print also, at least for this one. I just can not do the small print and it is not even because it is hard to see or anything, it simply annoys me by its very existence, lol. I know, I am a weirdo.Delete
