So Long, Summer!

Teacher work days started last week and I have been super busy getting ready for my third graders. I teach in an elementary school, and work with students who qualify for Resource services in Special Education. This most often means students who have been diagnosed with Learning Disabilities in reading, writing, and/or math. A couple of my kiddos are on the Autism Spectrum, while others have ADHD or ADD, and both of these groups need additional support with Personal Management and/or Social Skills.

Last year I had second and third grade, and I am so excited to stay with my now-third graders - though I will miss my now-fourth graders SO much. They are all such great kids, so kind and sweet and helpful. I really, really love my job. We had Back to School Night last night and I got to see so many of my babies. It's going to be a great year!

Happy Reading,
Sarah

  2. It's so great when you have a job you love! You guys 'go back' early though... School's here aren't back until the first week in September.

    1. I'm from Minnesota and we always started the first Tuesday after Labor Day Weekend in September. But here in Nebraska it's an early start, and finish in May right before Memorial Day Weekend. I think it has to do with going back to the days of needing everyone in the family to be home to help with planting crops on the farm in the late spring, and things just never changed even as the way farmers do their jobs has changed. Who knows, it could just be totally arbitrary as well.

    2. It usually is something like that. Same reason why wars start in September or late August - they wait until the harvest is in.

    3. Right. All hands on deck after the harvest and planting are taken care of.
