Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's topic has to do with books read on vacation. I'm going to be depressing and tweak this a bit, because it's my blog and I do what I want.
At the end of September Eleanor and I went home for a week due to an unexpected death in the family which was ruled a homicide. So, as you can imagine, things are chaotic and weird and awful right now. Much like is the standard response to literally anything happening in my life, when I am sad or overwhelmed or devastated, I read.
These are the books I read in that week.
Happy Reading
Sarah
Oh wow! I'm so sorry to hear of the tragic death in your family! I can't even imagine the mixture of emotions you must be going through right now, but I know books always give me a good escape when I need one.

Thank you so much, Lydia. We apreciate that. Overdue was unique but sort of fell flat for me? Not quite sure what made it so. But you may like it more than I did!
DeleteI'm so sorry for your loss! Losing anyone you love is tough, but somehow an unexpected thing like a homicide is even worse. Take care of yourself. And thank goodness for books if they help through sad times.

Thank you, Terrie. It is still such a shock, these weeks later. Without books, I would have been an even bigger mess.

ReplyDeleteCindy, thank you so much. Reading gets me through everything.
DeleteWe'll call it a vacation from normality. How have I not read any of these?!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT post: http://wordywitterings.com/2022/10/11/top-ten-tuesday-books-ive-read-on-holiday/
That's the perfect way to descrobe it. Nothing is normal right now, still.
DeleteSo sorry for your loss. That's a great book list.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bonnie.
DeleteOh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. How awful. I love to read murder mysteries, but I can't imagine having to deal with one in real life. Terrible.
ReplyDeleteI've read FIVE TOTAL STRANGERS, which was a wild ride. A bunch of these other ones sound good. I hope you enjoy your comfort reading.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
Thank you, Susan. It's still so unreal. I also love murder mysteries and honestly, that's what I turned it into when I was home. Maybe it was my coping mechanism, to do all the things during the service and afterward that a detective would do, looking at everyone as a suspect.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your family's loss. I hope you found--and continue to find--comfort in reading.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. It continues to help, because this is all just so unreal.
DeleteOh no, Sarah, first of all my condolences. I hope your life will be back to normal soon. Many hugs.
ReplyDeleteYour books look highly interesting, as always. I think I would like to read The Man from the Train, Notre Dame vs The Klan, Five Total Strangers or Old Country. Which one of those do you think I would like most?
I like your tweak. I did a similar one this week, well, I also twisted it, my TTT is all about travel books.
Thank you so much, Marianne. It's still so surreal, like how does this even happen in a small town where we are all practically related?
DeleteI struggled with The Man From the Train because I DNF-ed it a while back, but it's really the only book that links all the possible crimes together so I went back in and I am pretty convinced the author is right, even though he's a big doofus. Notre Dame vs The Klan was decent but slow. Five Total Strangers required some suspension of belief, but was a good diversion. Old Country was SO good until the white savior complex comes to a head at the end. It's so hard to know, but I would start with The Man From the Train.
