Tackling the TBR | Week 33 | Sept 1 - Sept 7, 2024

Here we go!

This is year FIVE of Tackling the TBR and I finally have things sort-of under control. My ultimate goal is to get under 500 books, but I also have to be realistic - just think of all the books not even written yet that I will want to read. When I started this mess  I was at well over 5,000 books on the TBR, so to be where I am now is pretty incredible.

I will post on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and last day of the month.

Previous Week's TBR Total: 2,041

    1. Not really, no.

How was 'France on Trial'? I'm likely to be @ the Mall on Monday, is it worth picking up?

    2. If you already know a good deal about the Vichy government, yes. I liked it well enough and learned a lot, but there were so many people I was unfamiliar with, it was kind of hard to keep track of everyone and who was in charge of what. My knowledge of Vichy is very limited so in hindsight, I should have read about the government and people first in-action so to speak, instead of starting at the end with this major trial.

    3. I think I'm OK with Vichy although mostly because of reading about the French Resistance so much... I'll check it out and see what I feel. Immediate post-War France was a bit of a strange place for a number of reasons...

    4. Oh, for sure! They just didn't really know what to do with themselves after the war ended. I think you'd get a lot more out the book than I did, since you have the knowledge base of who was who and what was going on during the war itself.

  2. That is a lot of books to be "currently reading," says the woman who sticks to a "one book at a time" reading strategy.

    1. I immediately put all ARCs and publisher/author/marketing gifts on my 'currently reading' shelf to try and shame myself into reading them before whatever catches my eye at the library. I am not actively reading all of them right now.

  3. You are currently reading all of them? Wow. I can do max 2 books at a time.

    1. I am a big mood reader, so I have to have a lot of variety for whatever I am interested in at that particular moment. I can juggle quite a few non-fiction at a time, but fiction I read so quickly, usually just a couple of hours, that there isn't even time to have more than one going.

I also immediately put all ARCs and publisher/author/marketing gifts on my 'currently reading' shelf to try and shame myself into reading them before whatever catches my eye at the library. I am not actively reading all of them right now.

    1. It's been a loooooooong struggle to get my TBR down to something manageable and I still have a long way to go. Plus I still read so many books not even on my TBR, that some weeks I make no progress at all. But I post on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and last day of the month, so feel free to join in, however you want to keep track!
