COVID Update!

So, lots of good news around here - mainly that Eleanor has yet to show any symptoms, so I think she is in the clear. I hope so anyway, because this is super stressful. Children's Hospital won't test kids unless they are showing symptoms. I could have her tested anywhere else, but I do not want to put her through that if I don't have to. It sucks. If you have yet to be tested for COVID, you are lucky. It is awful and anyone who says otherwise is a dirty liar, or impervious to pain.

As for me, I am not really sure. I started having some mild symptoms Friday and Saturday - mainly headaches and being very tired. The headache thing is weird because I have atypical migraines and as a result of my migraine meds, I don't typically get headaches. These have persisted since last weekend. I thought these two things might be reactions to the stress of it, seeing as how my migraines are typically stress-induced.

I was instructed to retest by my district contact tracers/nurses, since I tested within three days of last being in contact with Eleanor's dad so it was possible to test negative and still have it. I retested yesterday and got my second negative test of the week today, so yay.

Except I am STILL headachey and tired.

So, who knows at this point. Eleanor and I will keep wearing our masks at home together and stay six feet apart or more as often as possible, just in case.

Thank you everyone who has checked in on us.
Happy Reading!
Sarah and Eleanor

    1. Thank you - and yes, hopefully things will be more under control in the coming year. It won't be gone, and the next six months are going to be just like what we've had for 2020, but I think we can control this once we have an actual administration who knows how to govern.

  2. If you're testing Negative (Yeah!!) it's likely to be the stress. I know that *I'd* be stressed - esp with the little one!! Good News though (apart from the head) so thanks for sharing.

    1. Yes!! I will probably test one more time to be certain. It has been very stressful because I have been so careful to keep Eleanor safe. Frustrating that she was even exposed to it, but I am beyond thankful that she remains healthy.

  3. Continued positive thoughts for you and Eleanor. This week I read that there is a home test kit that works on saliva. At least it is available here in CA.

    1. Thank you! I might look into the home test kits and see how accurate they are. If I can avoid Eleanor having a giant q-tip jammed up her nose, I will. She will absolutely scream and cry, because it HURTS!

  4. I'm glad that Eleanor is symptom-free and hopefully your symptoms will soon fade. Meanwhile, continue to take all possible precautions and be safe!

    1. Thank you! Eleanor and I keep wearing masks around one another and trying to stay six feet away. But it has been so hard on her and last night Eleanor was in tears saying she wanted to snuggle and hug me and I gave in. We snuggled on the couch for a while, wearing our masks of course. I am still kind of tired, but I think that at this point it is stress-related from freaking out over whether or not Eleanor had it.

  5. Fingers crossed you both continue to be ok... Well, headaches and fatigue aside.

I don't blame you for not wanting to test Eleanor unless you have to. We had to get the little dude tested within 8 days of being back at school and it was horrendous. They gave me the kit to do the test and after the first nostril I had to practically sit on him to pin him in place for to finish things. Thankfully, he was negative but he informed me in no uncertain terms that if he ever needs another one, he won't do it... I kind of respect that.

    1. I remember you talking about getting him tested! I know some people have said that it just feels like pressure in your nose, but man I thought it hurt so much. Plus I was left with this burning sensation in my nostrils for the longest time after. I can't imagine having to put Eleanor through that and I hope I don't have to. I definitely respect your little man's stance too. I would never get it done again either, if I could avoid it!

    1. Thank you Heather! Neither of us ended up getting Covid and Eleanor was able to go back to school a couple days before Christmas break started!

  7. How is she taking the need to be distanced? Hope you're fully in the clear soon. I don't want to think about having to give the nose tests to a kid...preferable to let a stranger who they can focus their dislike on take the heat!

    1. Things got a bit hairy toward the end of the ten days but we made it! She was able to return to dance and school mid-week and neither of us have any symptoms, and my tests were all negative. I ended up not testing her, as she never had symptoms and my tests were all negative. Hopefully we will be done with this quarantine and not have to go through it again!

  8. Oh my goodness! I've been away too long!
I am glad that the results came back negative and hopefully those headaches were just work stress. Are you still distance learning? I've noticed that my headaches have returned because of too much screen time. I hope you and your daughter are doing much better!

    1. Thank you so much, Vonnie! I do think, and the nurses agree, that the headache and fatigue were probably stress of the whole situation and worry about Eleanor being exposed and possibly getting sick. Our district is a hybrid of online and in-person, but with my resource groups I often have kids online and in-person at the same time. I try to use the screen as little as possible when all my kids in certain groups are in-person and I think that has helped curb headaches from that. We are both doing much better now, thank you! Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season!
