Just two for me this week.
ReplyDeleteMigrations by Charlotte McConaghy
The Darkest Evening by Ann Cleeves
Both for January reading groups.
Hope they're great reads that lead to even greater discussions!
DeleteOnly THREE for me this week - Lockdown's are a *bitch*.
ReplyDeleteFiction:
After the Party by Cressida Connolly
Non-Fiction:
The Fourth Revolution - The Global Race to Reinvent the State by John Micklethwait and Adrian Wooldridge
The Narrow Corridor - How Nations Struggle for Liberty by Daron Acemoglu and James A Robinson
But at least your government cares enough to actually impose lockdowns! Especially here in Nebraska, where there was never a lockdown at all in the last ten months, cases have risen insanely. Eleanor and I live in Douglas County, which has like a 34% ratio right now. It is absurd. And STILL people refuse to wear masks.
DeleteI haven't been to the library in ages. I think I still have a book or two outstanding...Yikes!

Colletta
Our system opened in June for curbside pick-up only. Then in September they gradually opened branches again. They're only allowed to be at 25% capacity. We still do curbside sometimes, or if there are no other patrons, we go in. It is so weird to see the libraries like ghost towns, more employees than patrons.
DeleteI hope you enjoy them! I know a few people who loved the Colin Jost memoir.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thank you! I wasn't sure would like it because I have very mixed feelings about him and Che (they really are a packaged deal, after all. They have fantastic chemistry and are practically the same person at times, lol), but it was hilarious and I ended up really liking the book enough to five-star it.
DeleteOoh what's the Shadow Box all about? Hmm.
ReplyDeleteIt's about this artists who creates shadow boxes and in one of them she recreates a murder her husband committed 25 years earlier. He's a well-connected politician running for governor and basically owns the police. He's trying to have her killed, and then I DNF-ed because I was bored.
Deletei miss visiting the library and combing through the shelves. glad you are finding some good books. i'm curious about shadow box too

I miss that so much too! Our libraries opened gradually in September and can operate at 25% capacity, so that is helpful. We typically only go in to pick up holds that have come in and do very little browsing. Sometimes the pull is too strong though, and we wander if there are no other patrons around.
DeleteI love the cover of The Shadow Box! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteit really is! I was intrigued by the plot but it did not work for me so I DNF-ed. But I still encourage you to give it a read if you are interested!
DeleteInteresting group of books. I'm not really a Colin Jost (or SNL) fan, but my husband is a huge fan. I'll bring this book to his attention.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't either, but still found the book hilarious. I have heard some not so great things about him and Che being d-bags. I was surprised to find that the book is pretty hilarious. If your husband is a fan, he will definitely like it.
DeleteNice haul! I hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Shell's Stories!
Thank you, and thanks for coming by!
DeleteLooks like you got some good books this week! I also love your blog name! :-)
ReplyDeleteLisa Loves Literature
Thanks Lisa! I came up with it my accident. When I was first setting up my blog, all the cute and witty and funny names I tried were in use. I literally slammed my hands on my desk and said, "UGH! All the book blog names are taken!" and here we are :)
DeleteI actually didn't add any new titles to my collection this week, though I'm very tempted to purchase Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam.
ReplyDeleteI say go for it, if you have not done so yet!
Deleteyou ought to watch Fran Leibowitz in Pretend It's a City: pretty funny, sort of, about what it's like to live there...
ReplyDeleteI will look for it!
