First Line Friday #124

First Line Friday is brought to you by Hoarding Books. Playing along is easy: open the book nearest you and share the first line. Then check out the link to see the other first lines posted this week.

"The sheriff once told me this part of Oklahoma was haunted, that once you're a part of it, you can't ever leave."

I can't even begin to imagine the utter heartbreak for these families, watching the complete negligence by those tasked with solving the murders. I'm over halfway done and the book is absolutely infuriating.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think, and leave a link to your FLF so I can stop by to see what you've posted this week.

Happy Reading!
Sarah

Over on my blog I am sharing the first line from My Dear Miss Dupre by Grace Hitchcock.
"Willow Dupre twirled on the ice, spreading her arms and guiding her body around the other skaters on the frozen lake of Central Park."

    1. Funny how I already knew what book you were quoting after only reading the first five words. This book is so near and dear to my heart; a true masterpiece.

    2. I can just imagine your reaction to Scout's 1st Grade 'teacher'.... Saying Atticus shouldn't read to her & saying that they don't write until 3rd Grade! What a *great* school!!

    3. I was appalled then as a soon-to-be sixth grader and I am still appalled!! lol

  4. That's certainly a first sentence that would entice one to read further to find out more about that haunted place.

    1. It ended up being a really complex, tragic story but the author is insufferable and injected herself into the story. The families deserve way better!

  5. "I come from a country that was created at midnight. When I almost died it was just after midday."

On my blog, I'm sharing from The Reluctant Rival by Mesu Andrews:https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2021/03/19/first-line-friday-176/. It's a great book! Currently, I'm reading A Dark Beauty by Clarissa Kae, so I'll share from there.
"He squared his stance. Unabashed, he looked her over from her crown to her toes."
