Monday Meme #25

I am reviving this little feature after eight years. You might see a couple recycled from when I did this in 2016, but they were funny then and they are still funny now. Occasionally they will be more introspective or comforting. No matter what, they will be about reading and books.

I did start working out again for real though, after a foot injury that had me sidelined for AGES. I am currently doing the Taylor Swift work out - she prepared for the ERAs Tour by running on the treadmill and singing the entire setlist for the duration. My friend Allison is doing this with me. Keep in mind that the concert is three hours and fourteen minutes total, including quick costume changes and Taylor talking with the audience. We currently do about an hour at a time, because it is a long time on a treadmill, even going faster for the uptempo songs and slower for the ballads. But my personal goal is to do the entire setlist eventually, and run the whole thing.

Happy Reading!
Sarah

Wow that's a work out. Breath control. I never used to think about it much but now when I see some of these active live acts, I'm like...

    1. It's SO hard! I had been doing a larger variety of work outs before my foot was injured and so this was a good way to get back into things now that it's better. Singing songs I love definitely makes the workouts go by faster, but I am also waaaaaaaay out of breath by the end. I don't know if I will ever make it for the whole set list but I am going to try.

  2. What is with the sudden TS cult? I've known her as a singer for the last fifteen years or so -- my niece liked her when she was starting out -- but within the last couple of months people won't stop talking about her or....Stanley cups? I'll stick to Morgan Wade..

    1. What's with trying to dunk on someone or something that another person enjoys?

    2. BUT.... Haven't you heard? TS is actually a deep state robot, manufactured by the Pentagon to ruin the Superbowl and get Biden re-elected so that the US can invade Mars and take its oil.... Or *something* like that....! It's a CONSPIRACY I tell you!! [rotflmao]

    3. Lol, right? Never mind the fact that she has not toured since 2018 for the Reputation Stadium Tour, so fans had been waiting forever to see her again. Loverfest to suport the album Lover was first postponed because of Covid, then cancelled altogether. The Eras Tour had been in the works for two years, leading up to the release of Midnights in 2022. Like, this is not new. She sells out all her tours and demand was so much higher for this one with all the new fans she gained along the way when she surprise released Folklore in summer 2020 and Evermore in December of 2020, then Midnights. She literally broke Ticketmaster when tickets went on sale in November of 2022. People are not 'suddenly' talking about her. We've never STOPPED.

Also on a random note, I saw a meme today that said something about how Taylor was the one to finally get Faux News to talk about carbon emissions, because they were complaining about her CO2 output when her private plan landed in Baltimore before the Chiefs/Ravens game on Sunday. They are so scared of her, and she's not even telling people who to vote for. She's simply telling them to register to vote.

    4. I'm not trying to 'dunk' on her, I just find the sudden eruption weird. Like, have people been this obsessive for 20 years and it was just under the radar, or has she sold her soul to the Algorithm?

    5. Then what was the purpose of your statement calling the fandom a cult, and by adding that you'll stick to Morgan Wade?

I explained pretty succintly in my response to CK. She's literally the most famous woman in the world and everyone who possibly can do so are capitalizing on her popularity.

    6. I found an article this morning that provided some clarity. I haven't paid attention to her whatsoever since she transformed from pop-country to pop back in the late 2000s, but evidently her lyric work is more interesting than the average pop princess. I'm guessing the sudden surge this year has to do with the album that was released. This is the article if you're curious: https://fairerdisputations.org/taylor-swift-and-the-dream-of-being-a-whole-person/

    7. As I said, I summed it up with my response to CK up there ^. The term pop princess is dismissive of her accomplishments. She's an adult who has written or co-written every song she's ever recorded, and dozens more that never made it to an album. Her complete genre shift to pure pop in 2014 with 1989 was huge, as was the next shift to indie with Folklore and Evermore in 2020. None of this is new.
