2019 Reading Goals

After careful consideration, and the realization that some of my goals last year were simply not going to happen (helloooo presidents!), I am choosing to be a bit more realistic in 2019.

1. Finish My Book - This is my #1 priority. It was for a good long while last year, but I did get discouraged at times with the barriers in my way, some of which I don't know how to overcome. But I am going to finish up the first draft and get it submitted, because I can't move on to the next step if I stay in the same place!

2. Read 250 Books - Let's be honest here, I can't not read every day and setting the goal so low last year was a bad move on my part. I will continue to be more selective in which books I will review, but that is doable.

3. Participate in Memes and Features Again - The start of this school year was absolutely awful, for a variety of reasons. I was so burned out, all I wanted to do was go home, snuggle my babe and play, then read read read after she went to bed. I did not do much with my blog at all and in 2019 I feel like that can change. I won't be doing EVERY feature EVERY week, but it will be nice to be involved again. One that I plan to start in January is a 'Tackling the TBR' type feature. I borrowed the idea from Chuckles, who I adore. Check out her blog HERE, and see her Reading Challenges for the year. This will definitely help me to focus on the books I have, and try to whittle down that list from 3,914 to something a little less scary. There may also be some on my Kindle that I forgot to add to my TBR, so a better estimate is probably over 4,000. As you can see, this personal challenge is desperately needed.

4. Don't Let ARCs Get Out Of Control - Seems easy, doesn't it? Well, it's not! Especially when you have publishers sending you treasures all the time, and get easily suckered into perusing NetGalley for hours. Evelina @ Avalinah's Books will definitely help again this year!

5. Make PROGRESS on My President Reading Goal - And who knows, maybe with the pressure off of having to read about ALL of them, I will be more inclined to do so.

6. REVIEWS! I have to do better with this, to stay current. I have let myself get super far behind, as you can see on my Upcoming Review page. It isn't just a little, I am SUPER far behind. I did make progress over the last month though, as there used to be nearly 60 books on the list. My goal is to get this down to ten, and never have more than ten waiting - less if I can!

What are your reading goals for 2019? Leave a link to your post and let me know what you will be up to in the new year.

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. Sounds good! I was thinking of your Presidents reading... Maybe doing something like Monarchs or Prime Ministers...... It's a LONG list though. I guess Monarchs would have to start with William I and 1066.... Not even sure who the first Prime Minister WAS! [lol]

    1. Oh gosh, that WOULD be a long list! But you can't start with William the Bastard, oh no no no. You have to start with Alfred - or his grandson Athelstan at least! :)

    2. Well, I do have some PM style reads coming up - Chamberlain, Churchill & Attlee.... Not exactly starting in sequence though! I do have a few books around Alfred's period.... [muses]

    3. Good, then you'll have some recommendations for me! I am not reading about the presidents in any order, so skipping around it totally acceptable. But Alfred...I mean, he IS the only king to ever have 'Great' in his title.

    1. Thank you Greg! Do you, by any chance, read Latin??

Happy New Year, and blessings for a happy and healthy 2019!

    2. I do not read Latin, unfortunately. :(

    3. You know, you're not the first person to say this, it's almost like Latin is a dead language or something...

  3. Best of luck with your 2019 goals :-)
I'm doing the Mount TBR Challenge and also plan to restart joining in with Carole's Books From The Backlog meme to refresh my memories of some of my neglected reads

    2. 4,000 is a pretty decent number. Almost as many as me - actually I don't know how many it is exactly... I'm too afraid to count them!

    3. I did some whittling and the actual Goodreads list is down to 3,957 now. However, I still have about 500+ on my Kindle that have not all been added to the TBR yet. You know, I think we might have a problem...

    4. Personally I have 2 (book related) problems... [not 99!]. Space (to store them) and Time (to read them).

    5. YAAASSSS! This is why I am so sad break is ending. The time I had to read is going to be cut back drastically :'(

  4. I'm totally with you on this review backlog. I have 40 from last year that I didn't get done and with a new reading year started, I've already added three more to the list. Gah! The Tackling the TBR needs doing so badly and I'm glad we're both doing that and maybe we can motivate each other! I'm just under 1200 but I know there is about 50 on the ereader that haven't been added yet and I'm trying to pretend they don't exist! Thanks very much for your shout out and kind words!

    1. I had mine down to about 30, but then with all these that I started reading on break, I am climbing back up again. I fear I am never going to be caught up with reviews!! I'm glad you had the TBR idea. I am contemplating going through my Kindle to get those added to my Goodreads TBR, just so I have everything on there and an accurate count. Or I could read...Or I could work on the template for how I am going to post the 'Tackling the TBR'...or I could read...
