First Line Friday is brought to you by Hoarding Books. Playing along is easy: open the book nearest you and share the first line. Then check out the link to see the other first lines offered up this week.
"Memories of Lady Jane Grey conjure up a life of sadness and injustice: a young lady sacrificed through the actions of ambitious power-players in the complex world of sixteenth-century politics. And there is no doubt that Jane was a victim, but that is only part of the story. Jane was, in fact, a spirited girl who demonstrated character, passion, talent, and strength, and deserves to be remembered as such."
Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
Happy Reading,
Sarah
My first line is from The Rebel Bride by Shannon McNear:
ReplyDeleteSeptember 20, 1863 Battle of Chickamauga, Northern Georgia
Not for the first time, Joshua Wheeler wondered if he’d descended into hell.
Thanks for sharing another great line this week, Paula!
DeleteI bet that's a good read!
ReplyDeleteToday I shared the first line from End Game by Rachel Dylan but I'm currently reading Daughter of Rome by Tessa Afshar so I'll share the first line from my current chapter (22) here: "Like a loose thread in an unfinished weaving, Priscilla's well-ordered world unraveled by virtue of one capricious judgment." I'm absolutely LOVING it so far! Hope you have a wonderful weekend with lots of quality reading time! :)
Her story fascinates me. Even though she was not the rightful queen and Mary had every right to lock her up as the times dictated, the fact that she was eventually executed is so tragic.
DeleteHappy Friday! My first line is from "Because of Him" by Kimberly Rae Jordan:
ReplyDelete"Kieran Sutherland only just managed to keep from lifting his arm and elbowing the detective seated beside him in the face."
Totally read that as Kiefer Sutherland and had to re-read it, haha. Thanks for sharing your line!
DeleteHappy Friday! 😊
ReplyDeleteOn my blog I'm sharing the first line from Veiled in Smoke by Jocelyn Green: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/01/03/first-line-friday-117/. Currently I'm reading An Uncommon Woman by Laura Frantz. It's AMAZING!!!
"The field of winter wheat was sun-drenched and silent, the heated August air already blackened by buzzards."
Hope you have a great weekend filled with awesome reading time. 🙂❤📖
Thanks for sharing your line once again, Nicole. Happy Reading!
DeleteHappy Friday! Today I'm sharing the first lines from The Bright Unknown by Elizabeth Byler Younts: "I'm not sure whom I should thank--or blame--for the chance to become an old woman."

Hi Jolene, thanks for sharing your line. Hope you had a great week!
DeleteThe cover alone makes me want to pick this up! I'm sharing from The Gray Chamber by Grace Hitchcock today. Here is the second line:
ReplyDeleteRounding the corner, she slowed her velocipede and overheard two women gasp at her lack of chapeau and corset.
Happy Friday!
It's so good so far. We will never know if she would have made a good queen or not, but her story is still so engaging. Her tragic end is almost too much to bear.
DeleteThat is a great opening line. I am definitely quite curious about Jane!
ReplyDeleteI have read a couple other books about her I can recommend. I am just going to assume this would be one of those, it's quite good already.
