Stacking the Shelves #93

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.

I do not typically post the children's books we haul but this is the exception because the Wayside School series is one of my most favorites ever. I was so giddy when I saw a fourth would be published and we finally got it on Thursday. Eleanor and I have not stopped laughing since. We finished it Friday afternoon. It feels just like the first three and we are so, so happy.

Happy Reading!

    1. Whew! Although, I am curious about the Iceland book. I want to go there so badly, I think it is such a beautiful place. And I love the cold and snow, so...

  2. Only one book again this week. I ordered from Abe Books and got a first edition hardcover of The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. Beautiful dust cover in good shape and a lovely photo of a very young Isabel on the back. Cost: $5.48. It will be a reread for one of my reading groups.

    1. I agree, it looks delightfully scary and I hope it loves up to that image. I have had some dud thrillers lately.

  4. You are reading all the thrillers lately??!?

    1. Yes, and they all suck. This one was garbage too. I guess I have watched too many episodes of Law and Order SVU (every episode from season 1-12, multiple times, to be precise) and figuring out the killers is way too easy. But also this book was stupid. It started out with such promise.

  5. I will have to check out the Wayside School books. I bet my daughter and I would enjoy them. I haven't chosen my Amazon First Read book yet. I am not even sure what the options are. Don't Make a Sound sounds really good though. You're tempting me . . . I hope you have a good week and enjoy your new books!

    1. They are wonderful books! I enjoy them just as much now as I did when I was a child. I love that Eleanor enjoys them too - there is nothing that 'dates' the book, aside from one student always being sent home at lunch time on the Kindergarten bus, back when Kindergarten kiddos only when half-days. Even then, Eleanor didn't question why there was a Kindergarten bus at lunch time.

I have already finished Don't Make a Sound and I have to admit that I was into for a while until the main character returned to her hometown. It kind of fell apart for me. But that doesn't mean you won't like it. If you give it a try let me know your thoughts!

    1. I was pretty into it at first but there were some subplots that distracted more than helped. If you pick this one, let me know what you think!

  7. Well, look at that! You did get one of the books from your library. Woo Hoo! I still need to pick my Kindle First read. I hope you love both of these!

    1. RIGHT?? FINALLY! Eleanor and I read it in two days and loved it. Don't Make a Sound, on the other hand, was not so good. It started out strong but fell apart for me, especially with so many subplots. Others may enjoy it much more than I did though, so don't let me discourage you. But the villains were obvious. As was the vigilante.
