Books From The Backlog #30

Books from the Backlog, hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books, is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your shelf unread.

I am featuring books in the order that they were added to my Goodreads To-Read shelf, so sometimes there will be a couple weeks in a row of books on the same topic.

Why did I add Catherine de Medici to my TBR?

Because I know very little about the Medicis and she is the best place to start - and definitely the most interesting, as far as I know anyway.

Have you read this book, or is it somewhere on your TBR? If you've read it, would you recommend it to others?

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. I really need to read more history. I don't think that I have even heard of this figure. Or if I did, I don't remember a thing which is also quite possible. I do hope you enjoy this one!

    1. She was the wife of Henry II of France and mother to Francis II, mother-in-law to Mary, Queen of Scots. I have heard such deliciously diabolical things about her, and I am eager to see how much is actual rubbish - my guess, at least half.

  2. I haven't read too much about her history specifically, I'm afraid. This sounds like it will be a good resource! I hope you enjoy it when you read it!

  4. I have several books on her and her family... somewhere..... [muses] A *very* interesting group of people at the very interesting time in European history. I look forward to your review.

    1. I am hopeful that I will find the Medicis as fascinating as I do the Tudors and Plantagenets!

    1. I think she is just the kind of BAMF I might like - have you read other books about her and her family? If so, are there any you would recommend?

  7. I love books about the Medicis. Such an interesting family who had so much influence in the history of Italy. My book from the backlog this week is The Source by James A Michener. I am still reading it (909 pages) but it is a fascinating history of religion in the Middle Eastern world.

    1. I do not know much about the Medicis at all except for how they figured into the Life of Mary, Queen of Scots, which was not terribly much once she returned to Scotland. I am excited to learn more. Any other books you can recommend?
