"You were meant to do more than just survive. You were meant to thrive."

So Thrive by Casting Crowns is one of the very first songs I heard when Eleanor and I began attending the church we now call home, when she was around seven months old. I could not get the song out of my head, I was absolutely in love with it. The whole cd is amazing and I am excited to finally start this one.

Fun Fact: When Eleanor was much younger and wanted to hear Thrive, she would ask to "listen to Josh". Josh is our worship leader and for the longest time she thought it was him singing on the cd. I don't know if she still thinks this, but it is one of my most favorite memories of when she was itty bitty.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Happy Reading,
Sarah

  2. I heard of Casting Crowns when I was into contemporary Christian (I still listen to my Chris Rice cds...hell, one of his songs inspired my username), but never explored them. Hope you enjoy!

    1. We have an amazing Christian bookstore where I used to spend way too much money before I had to put a halt on all books not from the library or Kindle Unlimited. This is but one of my many treasures from those sprees. I love Casting Crowns so I have high hopes for this book.

    1. The cd cover is the same image and I always have to look twice at it to see which way is up and which is down. It sounds silly, but turned upside down it looks like a dead tree, most definitely NOT thriving, and then I remember to put it green-side up.

Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from Waltz in the Wilderness by Kathleen Denly: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/01/31/first-line-friday-121/. I am just getting into the novel, so I will share the first line from chapter 2 here.
"Daniel thanked the postman and stepped away from the window. Tapping the single envelope against his palm, he strode past the long line of men who, like him, had been waiting hours for news from home."
Hope you have an excellent weekend!

  8. Happy Friday! I’m sharing the first lines from The Rebel Bride by Shannon McNear on my blog today. This is the first line from Chapter 3:

“Standing at the top of the porch steps, Pearl clenched her hands inside her wadded-up apron and glared at her cousin, who faced her from beside the wagon holding more wounded soldiers.”

  9. "On 29 August 1831, Charles Darwin, aged twenty-two and just returned home from Cambridge University for two weeks of holiday, presented his father with a ridiculous proposition. Charles had a letter from Cambridge friend, Reverend John Henslow, conveying an offer of a position as naturalist on a navy survey vessel that would depart England in one month's time, to circumnavigate the globe via Tierra del Fuego and the East Indies. The voyage would take two years and Charles would have to pay for himself."

    1. There is so much I do not know about Darwin. OF COURSE you have a book to remedy that!

  10. Happy Weekend! My first line is from "This Healing Journey" by Misty Beller:

"Meeting a stranger shouldn't make him so nervous."

  11. I certainly agree with that sentiment though it seems the majority of humanity hardly gets the chance to thrive, let alone survive.
My first line for this week comes from Neal Stephenson's The Confusion: "He was not merely awakened, but detonated out of an uncommonly long and repetitive dream."

    1. Agreed, in so many ways. Barely surviving, or worse, is too often the case for so many.
