State of the ARC #31

State of the ARC is a monthly feature hosted by Evelina at Avalinah's Books - and now me, too! I took over temporary hosting duties back in early 2020. A couple months ago Evelina asked if I would like to co-host and of course I said yes! If you are new to the meme, you can check out the guidelines HERE.

Links go to my review. The majority of the ARCs I receive are through NetGalley. Some have come from publicists, or were offered to me from a publisher who specifically approved me for it on NetGalley; I will always note in the review how I acquired the ARC.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

January was terrible in terms of reviews - I did none for ARCs. But I have at least FINISHED many, so that is a plus. Now I just have to get out of this reviewing slump and these numbers will look much better in February.

Review or Feedback Sent

When I first started blogging my monthly State of the ARC I felt like I was drowning in ARCs. My main goal was to get my NetGalley feedback ratio above 80% and thanks to this meme, I slowly but surely clawed my way up. At my highest I was at 97%. I am currently at 91%.

How are you doing with your ARC goals? Let's talk ARCs!

Happy Reading

  1. Sorry to hear of your reviewing slump. I think I've got a reading one coming on as I'm struggling to muster enthusiasm for either of the next two books I planned to read - both overdue ARCs. I might skip them and pick up a lighter historical fiction instead!

    I'm looking forward to your Anna Komnene review. I'd never heard of her before. Was it an interesting biography?

    1. Thank you! It's such a drag when this happens because I had such high hopes at the beginning of the year and was super into getting those reviews taken care of! I'd go for the historical fiction now, and see if it pulls you out of your reading slump that is coming on.

      Anna is utterly fascinating! Before this book, I only had glimpses of her from what I have been reading about the Second Crusade. I'd like to read the Alexiad, though I think it would take me quite a while! (She wrote it, an account of her father's life/reign.) I love finding powerful women in the middle ages - they're so much more common than previously thought and I am 100% here for it.

    1. I wish I was smart enough to use your game plan...but somehow it never works for me, lol. I always think I need ALLTHEBOOKS. I am binging bigtime right now because the thought of reviewing is putting me to sleep.

  3. I hate when I get into a reviewing slump! I always feel so guilty.

    1. Same! I have finally accepted the fact that I am not going to review every book I read, though it was hard at first. But now, I have actual reviews I have to write for ARCs...and nothing. I am so unmotivated right now, and that's not fair to the author/publisher.

  4. I stopped years ago reading ARCs. I found myself drowning in the books and I was not touching any of my books on my TBR shelf.
