2020 Reading Goals | Or, "Relax and Whatever Happens, Happens"

I find that every year I put less and less pressure on myself in regards to reading goals, because I love reading and writing and blogging and the minute it becomes a job, it isn't fun anymore. So, I am continuing on that same line of thinking this year and these goals will only be directly related to reading and blogging.

1. Read 275 Books - Last year I read a total of 408, including chapter books that Eleanor and I read together. My own personal total was 278.

2. Reduce My TBR - This is on-going and was successful in 2019 so I am going to continue that progress again this year. Maybe eventually I will be down below 1,000 - though I am not going to hold my breath on that part. I will continue tracking my progress through Tackling the TBR. You can see 2019's progress HERE.

3. MORE PRESIDENTS - This goal has seriously got to get finished, if for nothing else than to sell back the books I bought specifically for it to Half Price Books. Two and a half years ago.

4. Write Reviews - I am not even going to pretend that this will happen in a timely fashion, but I have to get caught up. I seriously slacked in the last half of 2019. Don't believe me? Take a look at my Upcoming Reviews. At the start of this year, there were roughly 190 books waiting to be reviewed. Crazy, right? Right.

5. Meet More Book Bloggers - I really started having success with this, forging more friendships in 2019. My goal is to branch out and build/maintain relationships with more bloggers so we can support one another and introduce wider audiences to books we love so much.

6. DNF MORE! - Seriously. I have a problem where I think I have to finish a book once I start it, because it MIGHT get better, and I MIGHT miss out on something. But come on, if you do not have my attention 50+ pages in, we are dunzo. No more hanging on to a book that might just end up being a dud.

There you have it, pretty simple right? I want to get back to what makes reading and book blogging fun and not set specific numbers for me to reach.

What are your reading goals fr 2020? Leave a comment and let me know, or link to your own post.

Happy Reading and Happy New Year!
Sarah

  1. I don't do any goals anymore really, or challenges I should say. I skipped 'em all in 2019 and it was awesome. Ha ha no bookkeeping. But I do like some of these- meeting more bloggers, not being afraid to DNF if something's dragging... yuppers.

    1. I stay away from a lot of challenges about reading certain kinds of books because I know I am particular and I would not be successful. I was excited to see a few non-fiction challenges floating around, but when I looked at the requirements I knew I'd never get it done. So, I try to keep things simple and specific to me. The reviews are my big focus this year though.

  2. I have my usual goal of 150, and I'm hoping to spend less on books this year. I have quite a few to read before I need to buy anything! But I say 'hope' because I know I won't be following that one too earnestly... :p

    1. I struggle with that one a lot because knowing when to DNF and when to hang on a little longer is so hard.

  4. I don't set too many difficult goals for the blog or my reading. It does need to stay fun. I really need to get busy writing some reviews myself. I hope you have a wonderful 2020!

  5. Commendable goals. It is important not to put undue pressure on oneself. That being said - 275 books? Really? I can't even imagine that even if I only read picture books!

    1. Well if you give up cleaning, it is is easy! :) Mostly kidding, but I use reading and blogging to de-stress. I spend most of the time when my daughter has to be at her dad's (every other weekend, various week nights) to read and blog because it makes the time go by fast and then she is back home again!

  6. I know what you mean about not finishing a crummy book. Not only did I not finish the last one, but I returned it to the store because it was so bad. Then, of course, I bought four more, but oh well.

    1. I have done that more than once with Kindle books! I have a hard time spending more than $1.99 on an ebook because I am one of those people who has an extra affinity for the real thing. I definitely returned a $2.99 book when it was so terrible, I almost threw my Kindle across the room.
