So there are some obvious authors, like those from my childhood - Ann M. Martin, RL Stine, Louis Sachar, Beverly Cleary, Gertrude Chandler Warner, Lois Duncan, Mary Downing Hahn, Avi, Louisa May Alcott, LM Montgomery, Gary Paulson, Roald Dahl, the variety of authors of the American Girls series (Kirsten, Samantha, Felicity, and Addy are the best. No contest), and more.
Then there are the most-read authors I read with Eleanor's, such as Mary Pope Osborne (Magic Tree House) and Ron Roy (A to Z Mysteries), Melissa de la Cruz (Descendants). Shannon Hale (The Princess in Black), Mo Willems (Elephant and Piggie, Pigeon, and Knuffle Bunny), Jane O'Connor (Fancy Nancy and Nancy Clancy), Ben Clanton (Narwhal and Jellyfish), Serena Valentino (Disney Villains), Harper Paris (Greetings from Somewhere), Lisa Yee (Super Hero High), Cressida Cowell (How to Train Your Dragon), Lisa Ann Scott (Mermaid Rescue), and also more...
Unfortunately, Goodreads decided some time in the last year or so to get rid of the feature that showed a user's most read authors. What a bunch of bunk. Everyone should go complain so they bring it back.
Anyway, OBVIOUSLY this guy is one of my most-read authors:
I also really like this cozy mystery series by AW Hartoin, and eagerly await Mercy's next adventure. Mostly because her boyfriend Chuck is my book boyfriend.
I really don't have a ton of authors that I read religiously, mainly because I mostly read non-fiction and those authors are not cranking out books at the speed that fiction writers can/do. I CAN tell you, however, that the following two authors are those who I know without a doubt that I will read whatever they write for the rest of their careers.

ReplyDeleteI am glad you are not tired of it - I never get tired of showing it off! He was just so cool about it, and really was interested in what I had to say. I totally froze when he asked my opinion of Eleanor of Aquitaine. I literally could not speak because HELLO! DAN JONES WAS ASKING WHAT I THOUGHT OF THE COOLEST WOMAN IN HISTORY!!! I looked at my fiend Rox and he laughed and said he wasn't going to steal my ideas. Seriously one of the best days of my life. If you love reading that period, he is definitely one of the top historians to read. I always recommend starting with The Plantagenets (it's my fave, and where I first "met" Eleanor). But you can't go wrong with any of his books, he's fantastic.
DeleteI have quite a few Dan Jones books to read! Unfortunately my non-fiction has slipped by the wayside of late and I've been settling for TV show re-runs and History Extra podcast!

He's fantastic, I adore him! (As if that was not obvious, yikes, lol). I have Realm Divided too but just have not read it yet. And the second book he created with Marina Amaral will be in my hands as soon as it is released in the US. If you have read any, which is your fave?

I know!!!!! WHY DID GOODREADS REMOVE THAT FUNCTION???? I've also mentioned it in my post. (I need an angry face here). I need to add Karen McManus to my reading list. Don't actually know why she isn't on there.

RIGHT??!! (INSERT ANGRY FACE HERE). I did not use it super often, but it was invaluable when I did need it. I knew I had to include McManus because even though she only has three published books now, because The Cousins will be out in a couple months, then her next book in 2021, and then she will think of the perfect plot to give me more Nate Macauley. I'm quite looking forward to that! :)

ReplyDeleteOh, yes! I don't know why I included both the UK and US Magna Carta covers, but I have read them both so I guess it works. He also has his second project with Marina Amaral coming out here in the US, though it is already out in the UK. AND he is working on a fiction trilogy set during the Hundred Years' War that I am super excited about - and I almost NEVER read historical fiction, mainly because the authors always screw it up. But I know he has the background to write it, so I am thoroughly looking forward to it!

I went to look for the Goodreads most read authors feature and all I found were posts from them saying that we didn't use it enough, so they removed it. If they hadn't of hidden the feature it might have been used more! So annoying.
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY! Plus I also think it is a feature that maybe wasn't used often, but the incredible value it had didn't come from the number of uses, but from the info it provided. Maybe if enough people complain, they will bring it back.
DeleteChildhood authors dominated mine, too, so I went a little broader. FWIW, on goodreads you can sort your books-read by author, and manaully count them. That's what I did. It's tedious, but...servicable.
ReplyDeleteSO TEDIOUS! I refuse. I want the old feature back! I doubt it will happen but plenty of others seem to have noticed it is gone also, so maybe we can get it back.

It's gotten really good. Funny story, I HATED the first book. Absolutely hated it, mostly because of the inaccuracies depicting my college town. I know, a weird thing to zero in on, but it was important to the plot because Mercy had to actually go to Lincoln to do some investigating. But I just had a feeling that if I stuck it out, it would get better and it really has. And honestly, the first book's plot was a good one, I just chose to be extremely nit-picky over that one aspect and all the wrongness of it. They're quick, fun reads. Let me know if you ever give Mercy a try!

ReplyDeleteI initially found the series when I was super far behind on my Goodreads challenge one year, so I burned through a ton of cozies to try an catch up (I fell short by ten books. Boo.) At one point the boxed set of the first novella and the first three books was free on Amazon, it might still be - thank God for BookBub!

It ended up becoming a series I really enjoy. There is also a spin-off from Mercy's series, involving family members who Mercy is actually trying to unravel a mystery about throughout her own series. I have not read those yet and will probably get to them at some point. If you ever give Mercy a read, let me know what you think!

ReplyDeleteI looked for info and they said they got rid of it because people were not using it often. Such garbage, and there are posts from users asking to have it back. I think they are failing to realize that the value was not in using it a lot, but in using it at all. I didn't use it every day, but definitely found it really valuable.
DeleteI also didn't use it every day, but it's a nice feature to use every now and then when needed. Silly decision on their part! (Thanks for visiting my blog this week.)

YES!!! Start with One of Us is Lying, it will always be my fave. One of Us is Next was a very good, solid sequel, and Two Can Keep a Secret was also amaaaaaazing. The last line, UGH!! I am so excited for The Cousins, which comes out Dec. 1st. Plus she has another coming out in 2021. And I keep hoping she will find the perfect plot to continue the One of Us series, because I love love love Nate Macauley.
