As I've said in other year-end posts, all my year-end stuff didn't happen at the end of the year. I was not in the right frame of mind, nor did I really care, with Grandpa's passing so fresh on my heart and mind.
Today, however, is the final post of 2025.
I have been working on this for SEVEN years. At the beginning, I had over 5,000 books on my TBR.
I do have to admit to a little cheating, though.
CK (CyberKitten) is a menace. We discovered early on we are practically one person in two bodies, seperated only by age, gender, and an ocean. We love many of the same topics - which obviously means our taste in books is the same. So, every Saturday I post my 'Stacking the Shelves' and brace myself for his reply.
I created a sub-TBR in my Notes app JUST for books I find through CK. Luckily I have been able to get most of them from my library. There are a lingering set of 25 that were declined for purchase because our library system can't get them from their suppliers. These will never go on my regular TBR.
Unless I get below 500, which has always been the goal.
2025 moved me closer to that number, and I am excited for the progress I will make in 2026.
So, without further ado, here are my 2025 numbers for Tackling the TBR:
I started 2025 with 1,957 books on my TBR...
...added 1 book I couldn't resist...
...removed 456 I was no longer interested in...
...and deleted 11 duplicates...
...so on December 31st I ended the year with 1,459 on my TBR.
That's a total reduction of 467 books.
I also realized, rather belatedly and stupidly, that I should also be tracking how many out of my total for the year are actually from my TBR. Oops.
If you are interested in tackling your TBR, join me! I post (supposedly) on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and last day of the month, but you can do whatever works best for you. I keep track of how many I read, add, remove, and so on. You can find previous posts HERE.
Happy Reading!
Sarah
Congratulations! Inevitably my TBR only grows....
ReplyDeleteIt is our curse in life. All these books, so little time.
DeleteNicely done. I currently have 838 books on my TBR. I too removed many these past few months.. but then I added many as well.. so here I am. Lol.
ReplyDeleteLol, that's usually the way of it! I have started stacking books I own from my TBR beside my library books, so they can mock me everytime I reach for my Kindle or a library book. So far, results are very limited.
DeleteI've always admired how you keep track of your TBR. Mine seems to just balloon with no real path forward. Admittedly though this month I've been reading books from my shelves instead of all the shiny new ones. So I'm making a little bit of progress.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for introducing me to CyberKitten's blog! Already browsing through his reviews and adding a few new ones to my TBR!
Does that mean I'll have to regularly apologise to YOU too...? [lol]
DeleteI'm afraid so hahaha
DeleteEthan - thank you! I was feeling so overwhelmed when I first started this little project. But there has been a lot of progress over the years and I feel like once I get below 500 books, I can freely add to my TBR again without feeling like it will get out of control. When I first started using Goodreads I was adding any and everything I could find about my favorite topics. Now I am a lot more selective and know that there's no danger of ballooning back up to 5K...unless CK has his way and keeps adding to my sub-TBR, lol. He's a menace, but in the best way.
DeleteCK - you know you will, lol. Ethan and I also have similar reading tastes so we can be a little club of readers who constantly add to one another's TBRs forever and ever and ever.
Challenge accepted................ Indie Book shopping on Wednesday...... [ominous laughter]
DeleteDuuuuuude! But I have SO MANY ARCs right now!!!! lol
