First Line Friday - Now With Linky Widget

First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books

Happy First Line Friday!

Due to the massive increase in the number of bloggers participating in First Line Friday, the decision was made to run the meme like you see from The Broke and the Bookish with their Top Ten Tuesday. If you're not familiar, click the links to check out how it works. This means that instead of each of us linking to every other blog every single week, we will simply post our own First Line, then add our blogs to the link-up so others can take a look. This will make things so much easier and allow many other participants, all while finding new books for those TBRs of ours!

This week my line is from a book I am super excited to read, but just have not had the chance to yet.

I think at some point, everyone experiences doubt. It's not always soul-crushing for everyone, but sometimes something makes you pause - then question everything you thought you knew.

"Life is fragile. We desire security and certainty, but we often face a world full of unknowns, danger, and brokenness. Faith is also fragile. We yearn for absolutes and rock-solid assurances, but we often feel insecure and uncertain about what God is up to and why He seems to be taking so long."

Truer words have never been spoken.

Let me know what you think of this line, then head on over to

to find my fellow First-Liners.

Happy Reading!
Sarah

  1. Excellent first line this week!!!

I’m currently reading An Inconvenient Beauty by Kristi Ann Hunter, and that’s the book I’m doing on my FLF post today, so here I will post the first line from the novel I’m reading next. The next book on my schedule is Rancher to the Rescue by Barbara Phinney.

    Proud Bend, Colorado, April, 1883

“Did I read that right?” Clare Walsh peered up from her chair at the Recording Office in Proud Bend, Colorado. She blinked rapidly. “My parents are gone?”

    1. I thought so too, thank you!!

And look at you being all organized with having your next book lined up to read. I usually start one, then another, then another, and pretty soon I am reading twenty books at a time, haha.

  2. Sounds like an interesting read!

I'm sharing the first line from Lynn Austin's new release 'Where We Belong' on my blog this week, so I'm going to share the first line of the book I just finished here: The Case of the Clobbered Cad by Debra E. Marvin.

"Heather Munro gazed down Victoria Street so long, she became another gray-suited statue along the Royal Mile."

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Cad is one of my favorite insults. I feel like it needs to be brought back into mainstream vocabulary.

  3. Thanks for sharing this. I've not heard of this book before. :) I'm new to First Line Fridays and I'm so excited to join you all.

My first line is from Lady Jayne Disappears...

    London, England, 1861

“Well, Miss Harcourt. Are you, or are you not, Nathaniel Droll?”

    1. Hey Savanna, welcome to the group and thank you for stopping by! Mine is a fairly new release, I just got it within the last month and a half or so. If you get around to reading it, let me know what you think!

  4. Ooh that's a fantastic first line!

I'm sharing about "Witness Protection" by Carol Kinsey on the blog today, but I'm going to share the first line from the book I'm currently reading here.

"All of the stories have been written, including mine."
    Lu. by Beth Troy

    1. I like that idea, that everyone has had their story told before. Not sure if that is where this line of thought is going, but no matter how unique we all are - because we are - somewhere, someone is going through the exact same thing as us. Thanks for sharing!

  5. It definitely sounds interesting. Pretty much where the world is at. Uncertain. Thank God for the faith He imparts to our hearts. Sounds like a great book.

My book is not quite so deep. :) I've joined the FLF fun and featured a book on my blog, but I will feature a different one here: After A Fashion by Jen Turano. I haven't started it yet, but it's next on my list of books to read. "Miss Peabody, I do so hate to interrupt your work, but an urgent message has just arrived that requires immediate attention."

    1. Hi Anneliese, welcome! Thank you for stopping by, and for sharing your line here. I often see a lot of Jen Turano books. I am kind of an anomaly because I read non-fiction almost exclusively, so these fiction authors who keep coming up are all very familiar to me now.

    1. Yes, I am really loving it so far. I feel like it is really good for someone like me who was away from church for a long time - mainly through college and the immediate years after. So far, I definitely recommend it!

  10. I'm not a big non-fiction reader, but this sounds interesting - and challenging!

I'm sharing from Where We Belong by Lynn Austen on my blog, but I'm currently reading Cardiac Event by Dr. Richard Mabry. Here's the first line:

Dr. Cliff Hamilton watched the bright green lines of the EKG dance across the monitor screen.

    1. Non-Fiction is my book life! I love history most of all, especially the history of the UK. But I also love non-fiction like this one, and books about biblical archaeology and such. I read about a lot of random topics too.
