Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc. Never has my addiction been more obvious than when I am now keeping track of every single book I acquire.
Library Treasures
What did you add to your stash this week?
Happy Reading!
Sarah
I bought "American Gun", a history of the US in ten firearms. That was it, really. I've been occupied with a substantial naval history of England.
ReplyDeleteAnd there's another one for my TBR...
DeleteJust a hand full for me this week... [grin]
ReplyDeleteFiction:
The Fire Court by Andrew Taylor
The Smiling Man by Joseph Knox
Birthday Presents (from last week):
The Most Human Human - What Artificial Intelligence Teaches Us About Being Alive by Brian Christian
Ten Things Video Games can Teach Us (About Life, Philosophy and Everything) by Jordan Erica Webber & Daniel Griliopoulos
Non-Fiction:
The Appeasers by Martin Gilbert & Richard Gott
Case Red - The Collapse of France by Robert Forczyk
Defending the Rock - Gibraltar & the Second World War by Nicholas Rankin
National Populism - The Revolt Against Liberal Democracy by Roger Eatwell & Matthew Goodwin
The Joy of Missing Out - The Art of Self-Restraint in an Age of Excess by Svend Brinkmann
I would love The Joy of Missing Out! And the Ten Thins Video Games Teach Us. Nice list - and it's always lovely when we get books for our birthdays!
DeletePeople have learnt - the hard way - that they should only buy me things off my Amazon Wish List. Because if they think I'd like it and it isn't on there either they're wrong and I don't like it or I already have it. The odds against it being either are so small that they cannot be calculated with current technology.
DeleteYES!! This is why I always just ask for gift cards, so there is no doubling-up on books, and I know I will get something I want to read.
DeleteI used to receive apparently random books for Christmas, and when I looked somewhat dubious I was told -- quote -- "You read weird books". But now I receive gift cards or people are recommended to my standing Amazon "Books to watch" list, which is how I check for used copies of books I'm interested in.
DeleteI remember one birthday I was given a hardback copy of 'The God Delusion'. When I looked at it they said "We really thought you'd want this".... So I said "Yes, that's why I bought it the day it came out....." Plus (I didn't say) I don't usually buy hardbacks..... [lol]
DeleteApparently nonfiction is weird?!?!
DeleteA book has to be extremely special for me to buy it in hardcover.
DeleteI don't understand the 'issue' people have with reading (or other people reading) non-fiction. I suppose they see reading as 'fun' and non-fiction can't be that - so why read it, right? [shakes head]
DeleteI only usually get hardbacks as gifts or if they're on a very good offer - at least 50% off. Of course by the time I get around to reading them they're usually out in paperback and are even cheaper... [lol]
I don't know either, we are all just weirdos reading about the real world I guess! Non-fiction is waaaaaay more fun to me!
DeleteI worked at a bookstore in high school and the discount was good, but after Thanksgiving it was 40% off for three days and I always bought tons of the big hardcover books from the bargain bin. I got tons of great history books that way.
The Dead Queen's Club!!
ReplyDeleteIt was soooooo good, I read it in a matter of hours. I loved loved loved it. So much. SO MUCH!!!!
DeleteI am thankful that you introduced me to this idea of keeping track. Only two books in this week: The Unlikely Adventures of the Shergill Sisters by Balli Kaur Jaswal from my subscrption to The Nervous Breakdown Book Club and First Man, a biography of Neil Armstrong, on which the movie First Man was based (we saw the movie on Tuesday, I ordered the book that night from B&N, it arrived on Friday! Have almost finished reading three books, so I am ahead of the game.
ReplyDeleteYES! Progress! I think I have First Man on my TBR.
DeleteA Very Larage Expansive Sea for me this week.
ReplyDeleteOnly one? Nice!!
