"At 8:30 a.m. on November 8th, 2018, John Sedwick pounded on his daughter's bedroom door."
This one is deeply personal to me. One of my good friends has lived in Paradise for several years and after a stint here in Nebraska for a couple years as our church's youth pastor, she moved back home. Until I finally heard from her, this one was one of the longest days of my life, just waiting. Her stories, the videos and photos she sent, absolutely devastating. When they say the entire town was nearly decimated, this is not hyperbole. She and her boyfriend were incredibly lucky in that their home remained, while nearly every other home in their neighborhood was at least partially or fully destroyed. I thank God every single day that He kept them safe, and pray for those who did not survive, as well as their families.
Leave a comment and let me know what you think, and leave a link to your FLF so I can stop by to see what you've posted this week.
Happy Reading!

I'm glad they were okay!
ReplyDeleteMe too. It was awful and I wasn't even there. My friend was lucky; her parents and siblings all lost everything. Absolute tragedy on top of tragedy, but all made it out safely.
DeleteI'm so happy that she and her boyfriend are ok!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it was such a terrible ordeal. I can't imagine experiencing it firsthand. Secondary was bad enough.
DeleteDefinitely a personal read for you!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine (definitely NOT personal):
"To the outside world Edward, Prince of Wales and future King Edward VIII, had the air of a golden boy."
The King Who Had To Go - Edward VIII, Mrs Simpson and the Hidden Politics of the Abdication Crisis by Adrian Phillips
Very much so. It was a very scary day.
DeleteI go back and forth all the time on if I am really interested in Edward's story or not. Sometimes I think I am but then I lose interest again.
I'll be finishing it tomorrow. It reads pretty much like a political thriller at times. I knew some details but didn't realise a lot of what happened around the case.
DeleteI may have to take a look at this one then. Sounds like there's a lot to the story that I don't know.
DeleteWow - so glad your friend is okay!
ReplyDeleteMy first line is fictional and comes from Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard. https://wp.me/po307-1Mg
Thank you so much. And thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI fear this year will be just as bad, if not worse. It sounds like your prayers helped your friend.
ReplyDelete"There was a feeling I got before I spoke in front of an audience and sometimes also before an event that was less public but still important, an event that could have had consequences in my life..."
from Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld.
I worry about that too, with how dry it has been. They've since moved to a home out of Paradise toward Magalia. I don't think I will ever stop worrying about them, especially now that they have two little ones.
Delete"Hear ye the history of the most holy vessel that is called Graal, wherein the precious blood of the Saviour was received on the day that He was put on rood and crucified in order that He might redeem His people from the pains of hell.
ReplyDeleteThe High History of the Holy Graal...

ReplyDeleteChance Carter should have known this last delivery wouldn’t go down without a hitch.

DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI'm sharing the first line from Manor for Sale, Baron Included by Esther Hatch: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2021/04/09/first-line-friday-179/. It's a fun book. I highly recommend it. Currently, I'm finishing up Night Fall by Nancy Mehl so I'll share from there.
"When he opened the store's door, he found an old man sitting behind a counter, his head down, snoring."
Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 😀❤📚
Happy Saturday! Thanks for coming by.

Happy Saturday, thank you!
DeleteMy first line is from All That Really Matters by Nicole Deese:
ReplyDeleteI used to marvel at the way my Great Mimi’s arthritic fingers would pinch her eyeliner pencil and trace a perfect stroke of midnight black along her upper lash line.
Happy reading!
