First Line Friday #172

First Line Friday is a weekly feature and simple to do - grab the book nearest you and post the first line. Carrie hosts this over on her blog Reading is my Superpower.

On 4 July, 1378, a bead maker, Simon Wylde de Estland, robbed a haberdasher's shop in London.

Happy Reading!

    1. Right? And I have no idea yet how it connects because I have not started this one yet. It's a pretty massive tome.

  2. Happy Saturday!!!
I'm currently reading One Wrong Move by Dani Pettrey. So far, it's pretty creepy. 😄
"Andi slowed as she entered Jeopardy Falls and the speed limit on Juan Tabo dropped to thirty. She cruised along the two-lane road running through the center of town."
I hope you have an excellent weekend. 🙂💕📚

  3. "The first sound in the mornings was the clumping of the mill girl's clogs down the cobbled street. Earlier that that, I suppose, there were factory whistles which I was never awake to hear."

'The Road to Wigan Pier' by George Orwell.

    1. Ah, George Orwell. I've never read any of his books.

    2. This will be my 5th of his (I think). I used to live around 7 miles from Wigan from ages 10-23 and actually (briefly) went to College there to retake some exams, so I've been there HUNDREDS of times. Its weirdly interesting to hear what it was like in the 1930's. GRIM!
