ππππHAPPY BIRTHDAYππππ
This week's theme is to either re-do a past TTT list, or to complete one that I did not do previously. This is such a hard thing to decide, so instead I am going to share my ten twenty most favorites books of all time. It will surprise a lot of people that the list is mostly fiction. Since it is nearly impossible for a book dragon to name their #1 FAVE BOOK EVER, I am posting them in no particular order. Some have little anecdotes, some don't, but rest assured that if I was ever stranded on a desert island, these are the books that would be stranded right alongside me.
Because, of course. This is the book that introduced me to Eleanor of Aquitaine. Basically, Dan Jones named my baby. He was amused when I blurted that out when I got to meet him a couple years ago. You know, when the picture was taken. I will NEVER pass up an opportunity to brag about this one.
I found this exact copy on my uncle's bookshelf the summer between 5th and 6th grade. I read it in a matter of hours, I could not put it down. I was at my grandparents' house and it was a lazy summer day. Grandma finally shouted down the basement stairs when she hadn't heard from me for a while and asked what I was doing, or if I was even still in the house. I showed her the book and she about had a heart attack and thought my mom was going to be so angry with her for letting me read this book when I was not even in middle school, only eleven years old. Luckily my momma was not mad, and I have read the book many times since.
(I included this cover because it is the first edition I ever owned when I found it in a used bookstore after reading it in school.)
His best book ever. Fight me.
Also HIS best book ever. Fight me.
Normally I don't like movie/tv covers, but I adored the movie so and this is easily the copy I wore out more than the others.
I loved this book so much when I discovered it in probably 4th grade or 5th grade, I would constantly renew it at our school library. Like, for months on end, I would keep renewing it. I kept hoping that the librarian, Mrs. Schumacher, would let me just keep it, like the shopkeeper let Belle keep the book in Beauty and the Beast. No such luck. But I am happy to say I found a copy some years ago on Amazon and it is every bit as wonderful as I remember. It was already in the early 90s when I fell in love with it, but it is such a comfort, like a warm blanket around my shoulders.
I cried my eyes out at the end of this one. The last show, it cut me life a knife. RIP Yauch.
Are any of these books on your all-time list? What did you come up with for this week's TTT? Leave a link in the comments and let me know!
Happy Reading
Sarah
I just saw on a blog somewhere in the last day or two that there's a BBC show or something about castles narrated buy Dan Jones? If I have that right (don't quote me)... then again, this may be old news to you lol. I'm thinking of trying to find it though...
ReplyDeleteJurassic PArk is the bomb.
Oh yes, there are two seasons of 'Secrets of Great British Castles'. It's a few years old but still good and I have seen it many times. He's got a new show about walking Roman Britain's roads - it is like he sees into my head on every subject I love, then makes a show about it.
DeleteInteresting list. I went with books that have less than 2000 reviews on Goodreads.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea!
DeleteMatilda was one of my favourite books as a kid!

I am looking forward to reading it with my sweet girl, she is seven in a couple weeks.
DeleteTen Little Indians, that's the less politically correct And Then There Were None isn't it? I believe it had an even less politically correct title originally! It's one of my favourites, despite that. I really need to read more of Christie's books!
ReplyDeleteYep, neither title is appropriate at all. I only used that cover because it is the first copy I ever owned. And the oldest copy also. Such a fantastic book. I need to read more of her books as well, but I don't because I am afraid I will either find one I love more or I will read one and hate it and then somehow that will ruin And Then There Were None. I am kind of a weirdo that way.
DeleteAnne of Green Gables is such a fun story. Have you read the full series? :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT .
Oh yes! And during recess in elementary school my best friend Amy and I would lay Anne of Green Gables. I was always Anne, she was always Diana. We could never get any of the boys to be Gilbert though.
DeleteI love 'Anne of Green Gables' (I read the whole series), 'To kill a mockingbird' and 'Matilda'. 'The little princess' is on my favorite list but it's not as high as 'The secret garden' though.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT here. I wouldn't say it's a list of books exactly.
Have a lovely day.
I love the whole series as well, but that first one is extra special to me. I cried so much at the end of the series, both because of the loss of characters I loved to war, and the end of the series. I adored Anne Shirley and never wanted to leave her world.
DeleteAnne of Green Gables and Little Women are classics! I also really enjoyed Number the Stars. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteYes!! Thanks for stopping y!
DeleteGreat list! Anne of Green Gables was one of my childhood favourites :)

The whole series is so lovely, but that one is extra special to me.
DeleteNice list! I'm glad these books have brought the dragon such joy!
ReplyDeleteYes! SUCH JOY!!
DeleteGreat list. The movie, Little Women looks good. I have never read any of those books.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen the new movie. I have only seen the one that came out in the 90s.
DeleteI'm with you there on Jurassic Park!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT
YES!! It is his best work, no contest.
DeleteI loved the Anne of Green Gables series. I was happy to inherit my grandmother's set. Although I prefer Timeline by Michael Crichton. But that's okay. I don't wish to fight you on it.
ReplyDeleteFair enough! Timeline is actually my second fave Crichton book, so we are good, lol.
DeleteThat's so cool to own an early edition set. What year was her set published?? I would love to see photos some time if you would ever want to share any!
Such a great list with a wide variety of books!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: https://laurenbodiford123.wordpress.com/2020/06/22/books-most-everyone-has-read-but-me-ttt/
Thank you! Thanks for coming by!
DeleteGreat topic. I also have Ann of Green Gables and some Roald Dahl on my list this week. :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT list.
I will be by shortly to have a look - choosing just one Roald Dahl book is never easy.
Deletei see a lot of familiar books
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
