Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected in the last week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, you get the idea. If nothing else, this treat shows how much of an addiction I really have when it comes to acquiring my precious books.

What treasures did you haul this week?
Happy Reading!
Sarah
Empress of the East looks really good, something I'd actually would read too. Hope you'll enjoy it!! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Stephanie, I had only recently added it to my TBR and then I stumbled upon it at the library. Such good timing for me!
DeleteSix this week - mostly today (just got back). They were:
ReplyDeleteSouth - The Endurance Expedition by Ernest Shackleton
Why I'm no longer talking to White people about Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge
Other Minds - The Octopus and the Evolution of Intelligent Life by Peter Godfrey-Smith
M - Maxwell Knight - MI5's Greatest Spymaster by Henry Hemming
A History of Britain in 21 Women by Jenni Murray
Revolution in Rojava - Democratic Autonomy and Women's Liberation in Syrian Kurdistan by Michael Napp, Anja Flach and Ercan Ayboga.
Not too bad at all. I added Eddo-Lodge's book to my TBR. Contemplating Hemming's and Murray's also. Good haul!
DeleteThose haunted books look good - especially the one with the haunted hospitals. Enjoy all of these.
ReplyDeleteRight?? They were all just huddled together on the new release shelf, and I couldn't just take one and abandon the others!
DeleteOh, is that Empress of the East book about Catherine?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I bought one travel-humor book during a flash sale ("Don't Go There!"), one book on my 2018 TBR (I'm at 7/10), and I bid on a 1940s book from ebay that I won't mention because it's a surprise for my Read of England series coming up in April.
Nope, it is about Roxelana, a Russian slave girl who became queen to Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent in Constantinople. The reviews are mixed but I am giving it a shot.
DeleteWow, you got a lot of books. I hope you enjoy them all! The ones about hauntings look really good.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I thought so too - I didn't even go for any other books besides the Fire and Fury one - which I know is going to be ridiculous but I just have to read it - and there all these little books about hauntings were, just waiting for me on the new release shelf.
DeleteFire and Fury is one I kind of want to read and kind of don't. Same with Katy Tur's book. I did get Collusion by Luke Harding and have been reading that- a lot of it is familiar from following news reports and investigative pieces, but it still is very interesting and pretty in depth.
ReplyDeleteFire and Fury is the same way in that it is everything we have already known about this administration - that it is a total chaotic clusterfuck and everyone is out for themselves and Trumplethinskin has NO idea what he is doing. You have to take a lot of it at face value but it would not surprise me if everything written really is true. The book itself needs another round of editing or two. I added the Harding book to my TBR.
DeleteOoh Haunted Hospitals looks really good! Enjoy! :-) My haul!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissi, I do love a good collection of ghost stories and these are all pretty good so far!
DeleteI still haven't got round to Fire and Fury but I will be reading it at some point.
ReplyDeleteJust a warning, the writing itself is not always great and it needs another round of editing. But it is a quick read and I even skimmed some parts when it was a rehash of whatever was in the news. You have to take a lot of it at face value, but I would not be surprised if a lot of the stuff was true.
DeleteLooks like a great haul :) I only hauled one, again!! Can you believe it :)
ReplyDeleteWhat??!! How are you doing that?! I'm impressed...I haul them even when I don't intend to!
DeleteI would like to read Mrs. Sherlock Holmes. That should be a good one. I hope you enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteMary #SundayRoundup #10
I am excited to read it. The era is so fascinating, especially in terms of crime-solving. I hope I can get to it soon!
