First Line Friday is brought to you by Hoarding Books. Playing along is easy: open the book nearest you and share the first line. Then check out the link to see the other first lines offered up this week.
"The people who lived these stories are mortal. The force advancing on them is...time. Now, as never before, their stories need to be saved, protected, and moved to a new location: the hearts and minds of people who will carry their legacies and their mission forward."

I cheated a little bit and took this paragraph from the first PAGE of the introduction because it was far more powerful than the first line. I've never been a rule-follower anyway!
Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
Happy Reading,

Happy Reading,
Sarah
This sounds like a powerful read and one I'd definitely be interested in reading.
ReplyDeleteOn my blog I posted this, "Do you want to run that by me again?"
Abby McCree focused her temper on beating some innocent egg whites
into a froth while she waited for her tenant to explain himself.
I really enjoyed it. There are so many activists who I didn't know about until reading it. Definitely a must-read for the anyone who considers themselves an ally, as well as LGBTQIA+ youth who are unfamiliar with these figures and the struggles they've gone through to get here.

ReplyDeleteMy first lines are from Undercover Twin by Heather Woodhaven
Audrey Clark adjusted her crossbody bag as she stepped out, under the cover of stars. The atmosphere matched her mood, dark and uncomfortable.
Thanks for sharing your line Paula. Happy reading!
DeleteTake the line from wherever it sounds best! I love it!! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI am all over the place sometimes! I've even been known to take the last line from the intro, or a random paragraph at the beginning. Sometimes the words I share chose themselves!
Delete"Then there was the weather. It would come in one day when the fall was over." From A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway.
ReplyDeleteNever read that one. Not much for Hemingway. Is he one you enjoy, or are you reading it for a book club, or a challenge?
DeleteI don't much like Hemingway either, but this one is a memoir about his early writing life in Paris with his first wife. It is from my 1964 list, was published posthumously and I liked all his stories about other authors from those days in the 1920s, so not a waste of reading time for me. But now I am DONE with the guy! I have read most of his novels because he was such an influence on other writers.
DeleteThat is a good way to look it, and he remains influential. I just can't get into an of them. But, I am also kind of over fiction, so that is probably partially why as well.
Delete"On a cool fall evening in 2008, four students set out to revolutionize an industry."
ReplyDeleteOriginals - How Non-Conformists Change the World by Adam Grant.
Oh, which industry?!
DeleteEye glasses... [grin]
DeleteI must admit, I was not sure what industry to expect but my first thought would be something tech-related. Eye glasses was totally unexpected!
DeleteWell... Web-pages *were* involved... So....
DeleteThen I was not totally wrong!
Deletesounds like an intense one. happy reading and have a great weekend

It was very powerful. Definitely one I would recommend to allies and young LGBTQIA+ alike, who do not know the less-famous-but-just-as-important figures and activists in the community.
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteToday on my blog I am sharing the first line from A Christmas Haven by Cindy Woodsmall and Erin Woodsmall. It's a great Christmas novella that I am thoroughly enjoying. I'm currently on chapter 17, so I will share the first line from there.
"The sun hung low on the horizon as Arlen released twenty-four cows from the milking parlor into the pasture."
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading!
Happy reading to you as well Nicole, thanks for coming by!
DeleteHappy Friday! Today I'm sharing the first lines from Where Dandelions Bloom by Tara Johnson: "Gabriel Avery hit the unforgiving pavement with a grunt."

Happy reading Jolene, thanks for coming by to share your line!
DeleteToday on my blog I shared from Something Needs to Change by David Platt. Right now I'm about to start The Killing Tide by Dani Pettrey so I'll share the first line from that here: "Fire ripped through Finn's right shoulder, ricocheting down his arm." Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your line Becca, happy reading!
DeleteI’m sharing from Aiming for Love by Mary Connealy on my blog today, so I’ll share the second line:
ReplyDelete“She smiled inside, but kept the emotion tucked away.”
Happy reading and have a great weekend!
