I felt this was kind of up to interpretation, bookshelf or TBR? I went with TBR, because I already do a Stacking the Shelves each Saturday and don't want to be redundant. So, here are my ten most recent adds to the ginormous TBR.

DeleteAnother Eric Larson book! I still have to read Devil in the White City but I loved In the Garden of Beasts and need to read both someday!
ReplyDeleteDevil in the White City is easily his best work I think, though Dead Wake is probably actually tied for best. So, so good. I keep going back and forth on this new one, because I am not terribly interested in Churchill, but I am interested in the period so...we'll see when I get to it!

ReplyDeleteI am cautiously optimistic. I love Nirvana and am most interested in books about him that have not been okay by Courtney Love. I don't know if this one has been or not, but she can go fly off a cliff.

I absolutely love Casting Crowns and the whole album is so good - that's actually the album cover as well as the book's!
DeleteI am intrigued by the reviews that I have seen of A Very Stable Genius. It sounds like a very well researched and written book, unlike some of the other knock-offs we've seen regarding this administration. I guess we should expect no less from two Pulitzer Prize winners.
ReplyDeleteI am too, and I think this one will actually be worth reading unlike some of those you've referenced. The sensational ones are entertaining, but ultimately do nothing. With authors with these credentials though, I am hopeful of something good to come of it, since the impeachment trial is quickly turning into a joke as I figured it would in the hands of trumplethinskin's henchmen.
DeleteAdded the Larson book and the London smog book to my Wish List - so thanks for that! The Phil Rucker book was added around a week ago. I like him. He's always so good on the Nicole Wallace show. I look forward to reading his further insights in print.

DeleteChurchill can be a bit of an acquired taste so I know what you mean. FASCINATING period though. One of my favourite - when Britain really stood alone against the Axis!
DeleteExactly! I don't know why I have such trouble with him. My family is very very German, so WWII and the Holocaust have always been a subject I could never overlook. But I think I have said before, the military aspects are not interesting to me, nor the battles (except Pearl Harbor, go figure), so I have a tough time looking outside of Germany when it comes to WWII. I have seen some Holocaust survivor memoirs recently on KU and I want to read them, but I also do not want to sob my eyes out for hours. So, small doses.

ReplyDeleteI am strangely fascinated by books about poisoning - especially in the 1800s. Those crazy Victorians were all about the poison, so it will be interesting to see it in other contexts.
