Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature co-hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality. It is a chance to showcase all the goodies you've collected throughout the week, whether they're bought on-line or in-store, an ARC or a final copy, borrowed from a friend or the library, physical or digital, etc.
Library Treasures
What did you add to your stash this week?
Happy Reading!
Sarah
I used to visit the library so often and the last couple years I switched to buying books instead. I'm doing a no-buy book year so the library is going to be my best friend again :) These look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI don't typically like to actually own many books. I read so much non-fiction that once I am done with it, I am not going to read it again. There are some fiction titles that I keep, but overall, anything I buy is on my Kindle unless it is by a must-own author, and I only have two of those - Karen McManus and Dan Jones. During the summers my daughter and I are at our two fave libraries at least four days a week. Hope your no-book-buy goal goes well for you!!
DeleteJust two Non-Fiction for me this week:
ReplyDeleteGuns Off Cape Ann by Kenneth Poolman
Why We Run - A Natural History by Bernd Heinrich
Nice, controlled, good job!
DeleteI haven't read Slayer yet but I'm happy that Chosen has released so I can read them close together! :)
ReplyDelete(It also guards against potential cliffies... I don't like cliffhangers.)
I don't either! There wasn't one in Slayer, so you are good to go any time reading the first one! I am genuinely surprised at how much I liked the duology (and it better stay a duology or my generosity may wane), because Buffy is one of the greatest shows of all time and I am not down for professional fan fiction. Luckily this was not that at all. I hope you get to read them soon!
DeleteI want to read Slayer now that Chosen in out. Can you believe I've never watched Buffy? Actually heard that may help me like the book better.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't know if it makes a difference. I love BtVS, it is one of my favorite shows of all-time. I was very hesitant to pick these up at first, because I have a hard enough time with the comics, and those are Joss-approved! (And these books are too, but I mean the comics are considered canon, as are these books, and I can not even handle some of the nonsense I have read about taking place in the comics.) I really appreciated that the author took a different route and did not try to write characters I know and love so well. She branched out and explored a whole other side of the slayer story from the perspective of the Watchers Council and I think it fits nicely into the Buffy-verse.
DeleteAll your library books look like really interesting reads. It so smart to utilize your library. It's a hidden treasure.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have finished them all already and they were definitely great reads!
DeleteI read Slayer and really enjoyed it. I had no idea that Chosen was already available, I must add it to my list. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised at how much I liked Slayer! I think it is partly to do with the fact that the author explored a part of the Buffy-verse not really given much thought. She had room to create and grow a world and I think it worked well. Happy Reading!
DeleteOuu I have been seeing Catch and Kill on a lot of lists recently. The one book I am most excited for this week that I got the hold for finally is Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire. Everyone seems to love the series.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Catch and Kill is SO GOOD. Farrow is an exceptional author and I was really impressed. Not by his shady-ass bosses at NBC, but definitely by his dedication to the story and getting it out there.
DeleteI always forget to list my library books, since they're on my kindle. I'm good at tracking the books I 'have to' review, but I forget about the ones I truly make an effort to read! LOL Have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem sometimes with the 'have to' reviews! I definitely prefer physical copies from the library when I can get them - which luckily is most of the time. I don't buy many books because we live in an apartment and space is limited. Plus I mainly read non-fiction so re-reads are very unlikely. When I do buy books, they are mainly on the Kindle where they take up no room. Happy Reading!
DeleteI still need to read Slayer but it's definitely on my list. Nice haul!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I liked Slayer and Chosen so much more than I thought I would. Probably because the author did not try to portray characters we know and love so well already, but explored an aspect of the Buffy-verse that has never been looked at extensively.
DeleteNice haul! I haven't read Slayer yet but it is on my shelf. I have a good feeling that I will be needing a copy of Chosen very soon.
ReplyDeleteI would agree that you do! I liked the books and am genuinely surprised by that. I was very hesitant to read at first because I love BtVS so much. I think the author did well to explore the world from that of what's left of the Watchers Council, instead of trying to portray characters already solidified in the minds of fans.
DeleteWow, impressive list for sure. I really need to spend more time reading!
ReplyDeleteAll three were excellent and I highly recommend them all!
