Even though our world looks very different right now and this is probably not how you imagined spending Easter this year, remember the joy of this day and what it means for all of us.
Thank you! Counting blessings is especially important right now. I saw a post on Facebook about how instead of looking at this as 'stuck at home', we should look at it as 'safe at home' and I think that is really important. I mean, I love being at home because I get to hang out with Eleanor and read all day. But for people who like to be out and about, the change of mindset might help? I don't know.
I'm very lucky in a lot of ways. As a recently retired person I don't need to worry about work - not that I was anyway as we had already started a Work from Home regime & had been given laptops & phones to do that. Plus I have savings in the bank, a company pension and not much to spend it on but books & grocery's. I'm certainly looking on the lockdown as less of a trial and more of an opportunity - not just to read (and sleep) more but also to learn new stuff too. YouTube has so many nuggets once you sift through the muck to find them.
Yes, that is truly a great way to look at it - though I hope you still get your retirement party at some point. I keep forgetting what day it is and can't seem to fall asleep until two some nights. But I don't know why; I am not worrying about anything, my family is safe and staying home unless they need something essential (they all live in Minnesota except Eleanor and I, and Minnesota's governor issued a stay-at-home order that has just been extended until May for now). Here's to more reading and sleeping, and learning new skills!
You should start a weekly or monthly feature for your blog on some random new skill you learn!
Each year for easter, my grandparents host a party on their farm for the extended family. There are usually at least 60-100 of us there. This is the first time in almost 30 years that I'm not there today. It feels very strange, but I'm thankful that everyone is staying safe. Happy Easter to you and yours!
Thank you! We are definitely missing our family extra today too, though our get-togethers are no where near as large! Easter is typically my grandparents, my mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 14 of us if everyone is able to make it. Even so, I too am so thankful that everyone is safe, even if we can't be together. Glad to know your family is as well.
I hope you had a wonderful Easter, Sarah! It is a little different this year but I think that we will really appreciate it when we can gather with friends and family once again.
Oh yes, I think we will all appreciate that time once we are able to gather again. It has been so hard to go without seeing my mom; she was supposed to be here all last week while Eleanor was on Spring Break, but obviously that did not happen!
Safe at home rather than stuck at home is a good way to deal with everything right now I think. We're trying to see it as an opportunity to do new things. I've finally restarted yoga for the first time in decades with an audio dowload course. I'm in my second week of daily sessions and love how relaxed I get. My OH has bought himself a marquetry kit and is learning how to make pictures with wood veneers. Plus he cooked an omelette for the first time today (he's in his 70s!). And we found out a lady up the road is teaching herself Spanish :-)
I am glad you are using this time for trying new things or revisiting old activities you've enjoyed before! Now that I think about it...I have never made an omelette, but I am in my late 30s so there is hope for me yet I suppose. I have also thought about doing a language class with Eleanor, wouldn't that be fun?? Stay safe!
Happy Easter Sarah. Definitely a time for contemplation, thinking of others and counting blessings....
