First Line Friday is brought to you by Hoarding Books. Playing along is easy: open the book nearest you and share the first line. Then check out the link to see the other first lines posted this week.
It's been a while since I have done one of these - since the end of July to be exact. I guess it's time to starting queueing up some posts again.
"When it comes to the streets, there's rules."
I fell so in love with Thomas' first book, The Hate U Give; I could not put it down. On the Come Up was fantastic as well and I am so glad to finally have her third book in my hands. I can not wait to see the story she crafts this time around, and I already know I will love it as much as I loved her first two.
Leave a comment and let me know what you think, and leave a link to your FLF so I can stop by to see what you've posted this week.
Happy Reading!
Sarah
Hope to read THUG this year. I've HAD it long enough! [lol]
ReplyDelete"The library is cool and smells of carpet cleaner, although all I can see in marble."
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffengger.
It's such a great read, I hope you get to it soon. I read it within a couple hours and cried for much of it, because it was so easy to imagine one of my students in that situation, and for all the Black men and women who have already been lost in the exact same way. It's a hugely powerful read and needs to be read in every high school in America.
DeleteAs soon as I finish what I am reading I will get to Angie Thomas. My first line is from Poland by James Michener.
ReplyDelete"In a small Polish farm community, during the fall planting season of 1981, events occurred which electrified the world, sending reverberations of magnitude to capitals as diverse as Washington, Peking and especially Moscow." In the next chapter he goes back to 1204 and comes forward.
I think I have this on my Kindle, is it a two-part set?
DeleteI finished Concrete Rose on Friday. I have to admit I did not love it as much as The Hate U Give, but it is still a very solid four-star read for me. I am not quite sure why this felt a little different to me, but it is still a must-read.
Happy Friday! My first line is from "Healing Hearts" by KImberly Rae Jordan:
ReplyDelete"Sophia Haldorson shut off the car's engine, then turned to look at her almost-five-year-old son who sat in his car seat behind her."
Thanks for stopping by, Happy Reading!

Very important information!
DeleteI didn't know she had a new book out!?!? I've gotta get my hands on it!
ReplyDeleteYES!! I finished it already and I really liked it. It did not hit me quite as hard as The Hate U Give, but is still fantastic. It came out in January.
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteOver on my blog I'm sharing from All of You, Always by Lindsay Harrel: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2021/02/05/first-line-friday-171/. Currently, I'm just starting A Dance in Donegal by Jennifer Deibel, so I'll share from there.
"The grandfather clock downstairs chimed the hour, its clangs all too reminiscent of the funeral bells presiding over Mother's service just yesterday morning."
Happy reading! 😀❤📚

DeleteI've had The Hate U Give on my list forever. I really need to make it a priority this year!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely. It is phenomenal. I would read it before Concrete Rose, even though this book is set before it.
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteToday on my blog I am sharing the first line of Waltz in the Wilderness by Kathleen Denly
