This sounds fantastic! I know my opinion doesn't matter because I am not from Ireland, but Irland should be one country.
DeleteI finally got the results back from 23andMe. For so long I only new I was German and Swedish and a little French, because that's what's mainly on my Mom's side and I have zero contact with my biological father. I've sworn up and down for years that I have to have Irish, English and Scottish ancestry because my obsessions with these places is so strong and has been for almost all of my life, Ireland being the longest. Turns out I have all three, plus Northern Ireland and a bit of Welsh too! I grew up in a town called Rosemount, which was founded almost entirely by Irish imigrants in the late 1800s. A month or so ago I finished Four Shots in the Night by Henry Hemming, about the murder of Frank Hegarty and he was from around Rosemount in Derry. It's a longshot but I thought it might be neat if I have ancestors from Rosemount in Northern Ireland, having been raised in a Rosemount in the US because Derry is one of the regions I matched DNA to. It's so cool, I love this stuff. It's funny to me that 23andMe has articles for me called, 'Explore Your British and Irish Heritage', like I haven't been doing that for years; it started off with a picture of Newgrange and I was like, "Oh neat, already been there" lol.
Ireland is going to be re-united. It's inevitable. It's crazy that it was divided in the first place.
DeleteCool finds on your 23&Me! It wouldn't surprise me at all that you have a DNA Rosemount link. The Irish certainly got around a bit!!
I hope so. It is insane to me that in 2024, Ireland remains split. Ireland deserves full independence and to be one country again.
DeleteI am OBSESSED with 23andMe right now. I am fully 100% European (not surprised). The biggest chunk is Scandinavian, but exclusively Swedish. Then Irish/UK and German/French. The rest is just called 'Broadly Northwestern European' and then a tiny tiny bit Polish. I can't figure out where the French part comes in the mix though because when I look at the German/French section, it does not list a single region of France my DNA actually matches to - but in country matches in this category, it includes Switzerland and the Netherlands. So, that part is a bit confusing.
I am debating whether or not to pay for Premium to see my 19 historical matches. Can you imagine if Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of them?! I WOULD DIE. She is the grandmother of (Western) Europe, after all...
Looks like a good bunch! Gone By Dawn sounds like a fun mystery.

I quite liked it also. There were a few things that did not always ring true that others also noted in their reviews, but I am definitely reading the second one.
